skin rash

Hi, i have a severe all over body rash and temp today and have just been to a GP (not my usual Dr).  She thinks I have had a severe allergic reaction to Tamoxifen even though I've been on it now for 5 months.  Has anybody else had a reaction like this as I am not at all convinced, she didn't even look at the worst of the rash which is on my left side and then told me to get clay powder to rub on the rash and go to emergency if it gets any worse.
  • I haven't had that expereience, but I have had a lot of strange rashes & skin reactions since finishing active treatment over 3 years ago.
Did she suggest trying an antihistamine?. I would have thought that given that you have a temperature that infection is a possibility
    Take care
  • Do be aware that not all GPs have the slightest idea about the treatment we're having (as I have personally discovered).  She may be right as allergic reactions can happen when your body has decided that it's had enough of something after years of being exposed to it.  However, she could just as easily be wrong so worth getting another opinion - particularly since it doesn't sound as if she even examined you properly.  And if you are having an allergic reaction, you shouldn't just continue on without some sort of review.
  • So sorry to hear that, @JulieVT11.    Great advice @lrb_03 and @Sister

Definitely get checked out as soon as you can, even if going to emergency today - tell them you are on cancer treatment with rash & temp, to jump the queue - and stop the tablets

    Good luck xx

  • How are you today @JulieVT11 ? If you still have a temp get yourself to emergency ASAP. You will be prioritised due to the cancer. Big hugs
  • Hi ladies, sorry for the late reply, rash hasn't got any worse but the temp seems to have gone today.  I am on antiobiotics for a sinus infection  but Dr was quite sure that that wasn't the cause, she said she has seen women have a delayed reaction to tamoxifen so wants me to see the Oncologist asap.  I am going to back to my normal GP on Monday if no better.  I am taking an anti-histamine and panadol and seems to keep the itch at bay but the hot flushes makes my skin feel like its crawling.  Thanks for the advice :)
  • I would think a sudden rash appearing after antibiotics as a more likely cause. Glad things are on the improve.
