Side effects of taxol

@Teigra - I have experienced these pains, when I started taxol, thought it was period pain, I actually went into hospital cause the pain was so bad, they couldn't pin point anything and I haven't had a period now for 5 months, I've haven't had the pains again but it was exactly like you, I'm 51 years old, it's thrown me into menopause

hi Kimmi17, whilst taxol is more tolerable from AC, the side effects are annoying, I'm more fatigued with each treatment plus the numbness/tingling in fingers and toes, look you might not get this until the last treatments which will be bonus for you, just remember everyone reacts differently, good luck! I too stayed on Nexium, even after FEC, 12 taxol I wasnt much better, still felt sick. 

Pinkkittykat - It really is up to you, I did 4 FEC then 12 Taxol....Im 9 months on and to be honest I dont feel I have any neuropathy like I did. With only 3 to go, I really dont think that the effects of the final 3 would be severe enough. There is a method to how they work out exactly how many treatments, so discuss it all with your Oncologist. I really struggled my last 2 infusions and didnt want to do them, but Im glad I did my treatment Regime exactly how he set it out. In most cases symptoms improve over time, and yes some are left with permanent neuropathy in hands and feet. Talk it through. Hugs Melinda xo

@afraser - thank you for your advise, yes nearly at the end and agree once is enough don't want to do this again so it's very important  which way to go on this, I expect the oncologist will assist me more with my decision on Monday, many thanks again x

Thanks Primek, but it's more like period cramps. I have had only one period in two years and that was 1 month before my diagnosis which was 5 months ago. Maybe it's just a hormonal thing, I'm turning 52 in a couple of weeks

@Teigra I got really upset tummy on taxol (not as bad as AC though) I needed to stay on nexium and also required occasional zantac days 2 and 3, snd mylanta tablets. I found I couldn't toletate spicy food at all towards the end as it just hurt. I occasionally required a stemitil day 2 also.

The tingling is peripheral neuropathy, there is not a lot that can help it for certain, even if you were to stop taking Taxol now which I don't recommend, but your oncologist is the one to talk to. Mine was prepared to drop the last treatment if I really wanted to, but for a number of reasons I did all 12. At the back of my mind, I didn't want to ever be wondering if not finishing resulted in a recurrence. Once is not good, twice doesn't really bear thinking about!!

Ice water may help your fingernails. This too is a common Taxol side effect, my toenails went black, brown, grey and chalk white but I didn't lose any and it started growing out as soon as I stopped the Taxol treatment. The nose is a real nuisance, you can get nose oil from the chemist and it does help (it's just refined sesame oil!).

Hello, I've completed 3months of EC and have just started weekly Paclitaxel which will continue for 12 weeks along with Herceptin every 3 weeks for 12 months. My first first Paclitaxel and Herceptin was 4 days ago. Apart from some on/off nausea a bit of anxiety, fatigue which has now passed but I am experiencing lower stomach cramps which sometimes go around to the lower back. Has anyone else experienced these cramps?
