Side effects of taxol

Hi, I'm currently about to do my 10th weekly taxol treatment (only 3 treatments left) have had numbness /tingling in fingers from 2nd treatment but each treatment the tingling has gotten slightly worse to the point now that it's getting difficult now to open certain things, my left big toe nail has yellowed and virtually fallen off, looks like my right big toe nail is starting to yellow as well, have had nausea off and on from treatment although its nothing like the AC treatment! eyelashes have gone, eyebrows have virtually disappeared, have very dryish nose which bleeds when I blow, eyesight has deteriorated, achy muscles in my legs, just don't know if I should solider on to complete treatment, as I don't want permanent damage done to my fingers, anyone else experience similar side effects like this?

  • Have the discussions with your oncologist about your concerns and risks if you stop. I had neuropathy in left  foot from early on but both feet at the end. 9 weeks on nearly mormal sensation. My toenails went weird too and lifted..but they will grow back. Be aware of any other causes of Tingling in hands .. such as neck issues etc. I know I felt clumsier and had reduced sensation but it has improved quickly for me. Kath x
  • depends on how bad you are effected by it.... Mine has improved but will never be normal again :(  Yep the pain of treatment is not often realised for those who are beginning etc... I am sorry to hear but Please I advise go with your gut.
as what other options I had TAC allergic reactions so after 1 went to AC then had 6 taxol before I got the severe nerve damage, t hen I had  6 of FEC... so there are options ask.

  • Thanks Melinda, and yes I have been telling them weekly about the numbness/tingling, they don't seem too overly concerned but will be seeing oncologist on Momday before doing my next treatment. Whilst I like to finish treatment gut is telling me to stop.
Alice, gee what we have to endure! will this numbness be permanent?? I was hoping once I finished it will go away
  • are you telling your team about your fingers and toes ? check with them and see what the Onc wants .... and go with what you feel is right.... I had to stop but I looked like Jumping jackson with severe shakes and I still have numb fingers and toes 4 years after finishing

  • Hey!

I had 12 Taxol treatments and finished in December. I had mild tingling in my fingers, my toes were worse. I had nausea, nosebleeds, skin rash, lost eyebrows and eyelashes. I still ache all over uuugh!!! BUT....I did all 12, I personally didnt see a point in stopping prior to what my Oncologist wanted unless of course my symptoms worsened greatly. Trust your gut on what you think. Hugs Melinda xo
