side effects of chemo

Earlier in the year I had my surgery (lumpectomy) and I  am now midway through my chemo .It sure knocks me about but the reason I am posting is to find out if any one else has what appears to be a side effect and how they are handling/treating it. I have a continuous light kind of buzzing sound in my head, in the back of my head. It doesn't appear to be tinnitus which is a continuous ringing in the ears. Thanks. Midget

  • No.  I had occasional tinnitus prior chemo. Bad during chemo and now it's like it used to be. Barely notice it. 9 months on. No treatment given  for it. I don't think I mentioned it though as had so many other issues worse. Lol
  • Sorry I forgot something. I realise my problem is more than likley caused by the chemo treatment, but did any one actually have  treatment for the problem , prior to completing the chemo. Thanks again.
  • Thanks ladies In very much appreciate your comments and advice. I had a look at the link that primek provided - very helpful. Have printed some of it out and taking it to my Oncology Dr tomorrow. It actually mentioned a noise almost exactly like the one I'm suffering from. Ta.
  • PS. ..sorry about spelling errors. I hope you can decipher my response
  • @midget  I would probably mention the problem to your oncologist. The other person I would see is probably your Gp. You could have a problem not related to chemo. It is amazing the range of side effects you can have from chemo. Then again our immune system is weakened so things happen.
It is also wonderful how some things return to normal.
  • Tinnitus can be different for each person. Mine is high pitch ringibg (like scraping metal) I know of some people describing as a roaring sound. Nine was quite bad on chemo. Do nention to your oncologist as this is important.

This link describes a bit about the diff sounds.

  • @midget Hey there! Yes I recall having that through Chemotherapy, it was a strange feeling, I almost felt like sometimes I wasnt all there! I was very ill on Chemo, so none of those sorts of symptoms dissipated until treatment was over. Definitely tell your Nurses and Oncologist absolutely everything!!! so they can keep a check on things. x Melinda
  • Hi there @midget, that sounds like a real bother! I'm not sure if any of our members have experienced this, but it sounds like it might be worth mentioning to your oncologist or chemotherapy nurse. They may have come across this before and will hopefully be able to shed some light on this for you and assist in finding some relief.
    Best wishes
