Side effects and work

New to the group (TNBC) and have had my first round of Keytruda, paclitaxel and carboplatin. It seemed to go as ok as I can expect. I am very very hungry all the time though - is this the steroids or the treatment? Also do the side effects kind of stay the same each round or do they get progressively worse? I imagine I'll get more and more tired but if I don't have nausea right now, is that for example something I might luckily miss?
  • Firstly, welcome to the group. I am happy you found us.

They say the steroids are what make you hungry. I didn't have steroids as I am sensitive to them but I am always hungry. My treatment is very different to yours. When I was on Paclitaxol the side effects basically stayed the same as I went through each round except I got a little bit more fatigued. The second time I was on Paclitaxol I ended up with trigger toe after ten (I think) rounds and so they pulled me off. I wasn't nauseous with Paclitaxol but I don't know about the others you are on.

There will be others in the group who have been on your treatment so hopefully they will hop on soon and advise better than me.

Sending you big hugs as you continue on your treatment.
  • Thank you. I realise it’s all different per person but any insights are really helpful!
  • There is also a new group on here for TNBC. @Mez_BCNA are you able to help @M_Cooper join please.
  • Hi @M-Cooper
I haven’t been on that drug combo but just wanted to say that everyone reacts to drugs differently and often there is no rhyme or reason.
Initially ( as I am very competitive) I was like “ why are they going better than me”
And then my oncologist said “ there will be swings and roundabouts - try and enjoy the upward ride on the swings”.
So while the drug I am on gives me peeling feet , it has not affected my eating at all so I am grateful for the latter.
Take care and keep posting on here , we all “ get it” in ways people who have not been diagnosed with BC never can.🌺
  • Thank you! I’m in that new group but thought I should post this more generally. Still getting the hang of what’s what!
  • @M_Cooper Sometimes the individual groups are able to help with specifics. However, all the ladies here will wrap you up with their care. If you add a general region in your profile there may be someone who is happy to meet up for a chat. I love meeting up with the ladies in person. The care is genuine.
