Severe burning from op

I had a partial mastectomy two weeks ago . My breast feels like it is on fire I can't even put a sheet over it. It seems ok in morning but by the end of day it drives me crazy, is this a common thing does anyone have any advice to help alleviate this sensation?

  • Thanks Lara, Gosh is there no drugs that you take with this damned disease that does not have a side effect !!!. Anyway it's good to know that there is a solution I'm glad that all is good with u hopefully now it will always be onwards and upwards xx
  • I do believe they made me gain weight but it could also have been the lack of physical activity due to the op. Although the benefits far out weighed the gain. I did stop them after a few months and the burning returned slightly but nothing in comparison and soon subsided. Now I am pain and pill free. They can be quite expensive especially if you don't have private health cover. My lovely GP would give me the samples she would get from sales reps so I only ever paid for them once. My surgeon also said gently massaging the area can help with the healing and burning sensation. All the best Lara xx

  • Hi Lara, Thank you for letting me know that ,I had a feeling it maybe nerve damage I am seeing my bc nurse and surgeon today so ill ask ,I also have an infection in the wound so I'm a bit sore . My dog is on those tabs for epilepsy lol so I can share with him. Did you have any side effects from them. Breeda xxx
  • Hi Breeda I had bilateral mastectomies and sentinel node biopsies in May 2012 and as a result of all of the nerve damage suffered severe burning sensations under both arms and down both sides. I had a fantastic breast care nurse who recommended I mention these symptons to my GP as there was a medication that could be taken. Hence I did and was given Lyrica which is normally used for epilepsy. These tablets eased those symptoms and made my recovery so much more comfortable. Not sure if what you are feeling is the same but maybe mention them to your Breast care nurse or GP and see if you can get some relief too. All the best Lara xx
