Radiation Burns - Wet or Dry?

Hello .... I am looking for some advice regarding my radiation burns.  I am 6 days post radiation (25 doses) and the skin in centre of my chest has broken down and is weeping. (Also VERY painful) I was given the zinc and castor oil cream and some silicone dressings from the radiation nurses but I am not sure if now that it’s broken down and weeping I should be letting it “breathe”  or keep it covered?  Many thanks for any tips to help this heal.
  • As the others have said, ring Radiation Oncology, or better still, just drop in, then they have to see you. It's quite common for your skin to worsen for a couple of weeks after finishing your treatment. Take care of yourself, and get over there tomorrow 😊
  • Ring the clinic the nurses may want to see it for themselves and may want you to see a dr to be sure. My clinic said to ring them and come and see them if anything like that happened post treatment
  • Hi @MrsMac,
I am so sorry to hear you have this very painful and difficult situation. Are you able to contact the nurses where you received your radiation treatment, or your radiation oncologist for advice?
With my very best wishes for a speedy resolution and recovery.
(I am day two of my radiation treatment, so I am sorry I don't have an answer from personal experience.)
