Neulasta Pain

Are there others on here that have had the Neulasta injection? I'm finding the bone pain from this is worse than the chemo. How long does the pain last? I had the injection on Friday. Saturday night was the worst pain but now I feel like I find a new bone every hour. Even across my chest every now and then. I'm also getting headaches.

  • I had tremendous pain in my sacro iliac joints. (Back of the pelvis, each side of the lower spine). Endone sets my bowels with concrete, so I avoid at all costs. I found for sleeping, a pillow between my knees and ankles when lying on my side really helped. It kept my pelvis and hips straight as I felt as if those joints were being twisted without the pillow. Also had severe shin pain and during the daytime, walking helped a bit.
  • Thanks Sue P. The oncologist has given me Endone but it makes me vomit and anti nausea drugs don't do anything. The pain is better to put up with than the vomiting and constant feeling of feeling sick. I'm doing just Nurofen at the moment before I go to bed and it seems to be ok.
  • Onemargie - I'm in Brisbane. What's the spa bath mat? I can get to the Body Shop so I might give it a go - anything is worth a shot that's for sure!
  • Yes Brenda5! That forehead! Like having sinus but you don't have sinus! I'm really missing my walking. I have to stay out of the sun as my skin is flaring up. Might have to get the hubby out walking with me when the sun goes down.
  • I remember that bone and headache pain. It was like your forehead bones were bashed or something lol. Best treatment is walking. Take as many Panadol as you like and if that's not touching it take Targin and try to just muddle through it as best you can. My worst day was always the 5th day after chemo and 4th after the injection.
  • Hi there Vickiddo. I finished chemo in October 2016. Had the neulasta and the shitty bone pain. It would last a day or two tops but I bought a spa bath mat for my bath and my daughter works at the body shop and she gave me some Egyptian milk and honey bath milk. I would use that in the bath and I felt heaps better afterwards. I know it's hot at the moment but it's worth a try it was totally heavenly and I didn't have much luck with anything prior to this. I used it too before I bought the spa bath mat and it was still really helpful for me. I'd be happy to get you some and post it to you if you like ?? Margie

    Hi Vickiddo,
I don't take Neulasta but take lonquex (Lipegfilgrastim).  From what I have read they both stimulate the immune system to make new neutrophils and with similar side effects.  I get extreme bone and muscle pain, especially lower back, chest on day 6 post chemo. Pain lasted for about five hours and only had paracetamol to take.  As usual, this happened about 5 pm when chemo unit closed so was thinking of trip to emergency when pain started to subside. I wasn't expecting this side effect.  Also headache. The problem is that side effects to chemo can also be bone pain etc. Oncologist prescribed Endone which I took the second time as soon as I felt the pain start and is effective.  Tell your oncologist or the chemo nurses. I start cycle 4 on Friday and more worried about cannula insertion as last one was painful and left vein hard, raised and still painful.  I don't have very many good veins, so not sure what they will do come Friday.  Best of luck

  • Hi Vickiddo. I have had the Neulasta injection the day after my chemo treatments. Have had 5 so far and I haven't had any effects from it at all. I have been on EC treatment and I think I have been lucky so far with no major problems. Good luck
