Low Body Temp

Hi Everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I was wondering if anyone out there has suffered from low body temp as a side effect, and I am not sure if i should go get checked out or not, my temperature has been around the 34.5 to 36.0 so fluctuates alot, the first night last Thursday, (my very first chemo) i swear i was an iceberg, my temp went down as low as 33, scared the bejesus outta me, my skin feels coolish to touch, and this morning i felt like my body was ice,  at the moment, I have the constipation, which is not pleasant either, i also think i may have a UTI or kidney infection, as i have been peeing heaps, way more then normal, and i have a pain in my lower right back, i dont feel unwell, but i dont feel well either if that makes sense, every where i have read etc, has always been about high body temp of 38+ have not found anything on low body temp...any ideas or thoughts are much appreciated...

Thanks in advance

  • When you go to a health appointment next time (for this or something else), take your thermometer in and ask if you can check the reading against theirs.  That way you will have a better idea for future issues.  Our thermometers were all a bit dodgy and took forever to read (got a fair workout when the kids were tiny).  We actually invested in a good quality in-the-ear one when I first started chemo.
  • Mine was on the low side all through chemo apart from a couple of spikes. It was frequently in the 35s. Anything unusual during chemo should always be checked out, for your peace of mind if nothing else. K xox
  • @Sister wow that was lucky, glad to hear you came out of it ok though....

@lrb_03 i rang my ongology office and they said that my thermometer must be faulty lol....if i dont feel any better tomorrow ill go to the ED, and get checked out....I do however feel a little better tonight then i did last night....

  • I would suggest any uncertainty around it, you need to get it checked. Can you ring someone at your treatment centre, or go in and get checked over?
I know babies can drop their temperature instead of it rising sometimes when they have an infection, so it's possible.
    Take care
  • Low temp is not great as I understand it. If you think you may have an infection get it checked out.  A couple of years ago (pre-bc), I thought I might have a UTI but symptoms went away. Fast forward 2 weeks and I collapsed on the floor with uncontrollable shakes and shivers. I spent the next few days in hospital on massive doses of antibiotics, hardly conscious of the world around me.  UTI had gone up to my kidneys and affected my liver.  All cleared up but scared the doctor.
