Losing your hair

Majella, that is so cute!! Your baby now, so adorable - And rainbow hair definitely would be awesome to have... Fingers crossed for rainbow!! I am glad everyone at your school is giving you hugs and being so supportive - that's one less thing to worry about, and another network of people who can help... you can't ever have too much of that!

thanks bel, i ended up telling him that my hairdresser is going to shave the rest of hair off as the medicine is doing a good job and going to make better again. I asked him what going does he think it will grow back and he said "I hope it's rainbow" ( what a sweetie) . I didn't realise when they shave it off, that they don't actually shave it off, they use a 0? blade so i have like a 3 day growth on my head with funny patches on my head , either my hair shaft or dye stain from colouring I don't really know, so hoping the stubble falls off soon. My son said that it was good that i will have no have as i can be his baby now. so he seems fine so far. It was extremely difficult yesterday fronting up at school. He started prep this week and I started the week witgh hair and finished with a headcover so the secret is out. Parents I know come and give me a cuddle or chat with me and most importantly talk to me and make eye contact (thank you so very much!). I know it's a shock ti people to see someone who they now know obviously has cancer and I know the shock will wear off and it will become less noticeable as time goes on, but still felt a bit freaky, it was like running the gaunlet.

I am suprised how sensitive my head is. The sleeping cap is a good idea as if you rub it one way it's okay but the other way is sore. checked out headcovers for a scarves and hats etc and purchased a few different things, but it has been so very hot here in brisbane the hat might be more successful.

I would be calling her and demanding some results... How rude to make you wait to long after the ordeal of seeing her. Cheeky!! Wigs are generally either a petite size or average... They all fit pretty much the same way, and you can adjust them in the nape area. If you have a particularly small or large head, you generally know about and have a hard time finding any hats etc that have ever fitted properly... I would say 95% of my customers are average size. To check your head size just in case, you can measure from the middle of your forehead at where your hairline would start, down over the temple just above your ear, to the nape of your neck, back up and around again! It's most likely 21" give or take half an inch... That falls well within the 'average' size for a snugg and comfortable fit, for sure!

Even for a custom order, it's surprising it is taking more than a week to arrive. I imagine her head office has SOME stock to ship - But even ordering directly from the manufacturer takes us 5-7 days, and then we post it the same day it arrives via overnight delivery to ensure a quick and painless journey for the hair.

Oh a big hug goes out there to your little boy, but kids bounce back so well and they will believe and story you create.  What I see on TV all the time are those ads with children who have lost their hair and have had Chemo.  It kinda has given me a WOW moment over that, seeing Id thought to myself, Ive done something to give myself Cancer (about 20 years of having a fab time partying that included a time in a rock band) or was it the bad genes (Mum has had it - still alive).  Oh and I spent 20 years making hair look great, but dont blink at the shampoo ads, I just glance up at my Wedding Pic and think, thank god it will grow back.  I was feeling quite sick the day I shaved it off, made Mum do it because husband wasnt keen to, and bam, all the drama was finally over!  I think being honest with your little boy and making him aware it will grown back, its just the medicine that fixes Cancer, that did it and it wont be forever....thats what Id do.  After all, its in your face!  Oh and yes, order on-line, I found the 2 little sleeping caps are essential, but its cooler here in Tas (yey), and I couldnt buy a hat here, no stock at the brand new Cancer Wellbeing Centre.  Wrong time of the year!  I said to my parents at that moment, wow, hasnt that been my theme the whole way - public holidays, Christmas, you name it, how inconvenient to have Cancer from October!  Make sure if you shave your clippers are sterile and the person doing it is a hairdresser (I got an infection from something!).  I dont get involved with my  mirror anymore, when I was in my 20's I spent way too much time looking at myself in the mirror, and remember there are a lot of guys out there who lose their hair early and thats a drama for them!  (I hope Im making you feel better).  I have cried more about going for walks on my own than losing my hair (Dad went home and he walked with me). but hey dont feel unusual for not wanting to be bald but then remember, we are all bald in here lovely!  (thats the bcna mob who are just starting, like us!) Tonight is the night!! Don't be afraid. We're all thinking of you - Everyone here has been through it, and made it out the other side... It can actually be pretty liberating for some!

Perhaps you could turn the haircut into an experience for your little one, by letting them know it was going to happen in advance or even helping them cut mummy's hair. A morning surprise might be more upsetting than knowing in advance?  There's also the "Shave for a cure" type stuff, could you possibly explain that it was for that as well?? :)

hair is going tonight, have been teary about it all day. My little dude will be asleep and when he wakes up it will be gone. I thought if i collect it in a bag I could show him in the morning and say something like" oh look mummy's hair has finally all fallen out" maybe add "oh that's good the medicine is doing a good job"...Tried to look at headcover site last anight and this morning, but can't go there just yet. at least the prickly feeling of hair falling out and feeling like something crawling on your arm will stop. I made the decison this morning after looking at the hair collected from the drains, t lying on the floor, my pillow.......and need to get ot over and done with instead of watching the slow progression of baldness, too depressing. so wish me good luck and happy thoughts.

Sorry to hear they've given you the run-around... Maybe it's stuck in her suitcase wheel! On the bright side, she had one she can actually show right? :)

You're absolutely right, you do get used to it! So many girls think their short hair is going to be heinous but it usually looks pretty amazing on them - I guess short hair is something people always think about, but it's such a huge change. It can really highlight your features... and at this time of year, it's definitely easier to manage without fear of wind, humidity and hot weather.

I hope your sense of humour is sneaking it's way back in! *HUG*
