Looking for reassurance please! Big decision to make......

After 2 violent allergic reactions to the Docetaxel component of my TC chemo, my medico team has given me 2 options.....1. Be admitted and do desensitisation and then continue original regime,if all goes well. 2. Change over to AC chemo.
Yes, the decision is up to me but hashing out things on this wonderful forum has helped me so much already. I appreciate any and all comments. Thankyou all so much.
For anyone that has read my prior comments on other threads.....suddenly I don’t care less about my hair loss! Go figure! Lol.
Best wishes to all.xxx

  • AC is cumulative, too but maybe not such a big problem if you're not allergic.
  • @Piccme I found the Docetaxel side effects cumulative as well.
  • Hi @Fletch, if you were to have desensitisation how many more cycles would you have left? I didn’t cope well with Docytaxol, my first being the worst. I too had an allergic reaction with my first. I then had dose reduction for the next 2. I still struggles though. I had three cycles in total after 3 FEC cycles. Personally, I found that side effects accumulated with docytaxol, the last being the worst . But we all react differently. As the other girls suggest, it is best to be guided by your team. I ended up getting through the treatment. At the time I wasn’t sure if I could. Just remember, you now know how you react to docytaxol and your team are there to help you get through. No matter which treatment path you go down, we are all here to support you. Please let us know which path you choose and how you go. Xx
  • @Finch it's hard to say if you would have the same reaction but I had a really hard time on AC. I spent days per cycle unable to leave my bed and only got through 3 of 4 cycles as I couldn't face the last one. Just my two cents worth...
  • @Finch I would ask the onc, if I were your partner, what would you recommend?
  • Oh no, another bad reaction , sorry to hear Fletch.  I love it how these oncologists give back these hard decisions to us . Have they advised you what they think you should do? Xxx
  • Have they told you what the difference is to change to AC and how it will effect outcomes?  I had AC and to be honest, I'm not sure if it's worse than what others have had.
  • I'd be guided by your medical team but.....what does the desensitisation entail? Are there any likely side effects of that? What is the success rate estimated to be? If it doesn't work, you are presumably on to A/C anyway, so you would want to think the desensitisation is likely to work and that it won't have any nasties. Otherwise remember that while most people dislike A/C, some like me worked through, with no nausea or fatigue. Best wishes.
