I was hoping one of you lovely ladies would know where I can look for information on products and remedies that are safe to use during chemo therapy. I had my first FEC dose on Monday, came out in a red rash through my scalp, chest and breast (has improved heaps) but my scalp is seriously itchy. I had itchy scalp issues before chemo and do expect it to get worse, wondering if there was anything I can use for temporary relief that doesn’t cause more problems. Also, I have sensitive skin, I need a sunblock that won’t irritate. Is there a ‘recommended go to’ site out there that might answer my questions, without trolling google and coming across avoidable information.Thanks in advance xxx

My head itched just before my hair fell out so I chopped it really short and that improved it. Now my hair is growing back and my scalp itches again. I put coconut oil on it straight after my shower and voila, no more itch.

The itchy scalp may be a reaction to chemo. My scalp got itchy and sore (on A/C) before my hair fell out and it's not an unusual occurrence. If your scalp is sensitive anyway, it may make it worse. It's hardly a consolation but the itchy/sunburnt feeling goes away if your hair does too.

I had a very sore scalp as my hair fell out. I rubbed some cortisone ointment on and that helped. I use Natural Instinct sunscreen available from Chemist Warehouse which you may find suitable.

@Kellee. When I was having I.V. chemo. and even now I use a product called "Ultrabland" which is really a facial cleanser. It is based on Beeswax. It does not have a fragrance. I use it now like a mousse in my hair. I buy it at Lush.

Ask about taking some antihistamines. If you are going to need Neulasta shots, they can help manage bone pain and many oncologists prescribe them as a matter of course to help with minor allergic reactions. Some poo-poo that approach, but it's worth asking. Mxx

@Kellee When I had a sore red boob, it ended up as cellulitis. Maybe you should contact your hospital.

@Kellee I believe MooGoo do a scalp cream now as well as a chemo skin care pack and sunblock Might be worth a google.

Once my hair fell out I washed my head with keri oil and mosturised daily. I only worse tinted moisturiser or facecream with sun protection and always just wore a hat and avoided long sun exposure.

I asked about antihistamines @Zoffiel they said not recommended. I have a sore throat tonight. No bone pain, just a sore red boob 😟

Thanks @Blossom1961 I’ve cropped my hair shorter than normal, it just seems so soon, I only had chemo 4 days ago. I have coconut oil. I might give it a try 😊

Thank you @Afraser @Vangirl I didn’t expect it to itch so soon. It’s not sore just itchy. I will definitely look up the sunscreen xx
