I missed my hair and now it is back but what do i do with it?

I posted a while ago i missed my hair

Well im thrilled that it is back but its a bit crazy. Last chemo was 6/1/21. At christmas i basically was bald with a few sprouting hairs. To give hope to people who have just lost hair it does return and sometimes with vigour.

Flippant i know but should i get a trim? Anyone had anything like this and know what to do to to help leave the house without a scarfe but looking human? Its hot. Im having hot flushes all over the place - hair and scarfes is causing a lot of sweating.

  • I kept # 4 clipping mine until I was convinced it was no longer 'chemo' hair.
My partner hated it and begged me to let it grow. This was about 6 months post chemo. It looks a lot different now, long and straight and an interesting ombre effect: grey/blond on top and dark underneath.

  • @MichelleR agh my face is rounder and I found another chin during covid. I  Now have eyebrows and eyelashes.  Thankyou I'm feeling healthy. I tried to pay extra attention to my face skincare while going thru bc treatment.  I have just started  taking my dog for a walk again but its only a little walk but I figure movement is movement. I have
Missed having a pedicure or facial during covid and bc.  Missing toe nails now so I think it will be a long time before they look good again. Xxx
  • @Locksley,

Looks good. I really like seeing your face more. You look really healthy. My hair is scraggly around ears and i have thought about trimming but HAIR...im not even shaving underarms (tmi) because i now consider hair golden!
  • I finished chemo 23/11/20.  My mousy brown hair is growing back grey and white.  It was getting very long and scraggly over my ears so I just had a number 2 all over at the volunteer centre at Peter mac.   I also don't know what to do as it grows.
  • @noosa_blue150,

Your hair is looking good. Quite thick and no patchy bits. I had brown hair before - quite mousey. I cant run my hands through my hair really too short and quite thin on sides. I have some really funny long white strands. Ive waited all this time so guess longer wont matter.

Be interested to hear what your hairdresser says. I was trying to remember what i did with my kids hair as babies but then they look gorgeous regardless.
  • Hi michelleR. I’m slightly ahead of you (last chemo as 1st dec 2020). I was wondering like you what to do. My hair was a mix of grey and light brown before BC and chemo, at moment it’s looking very silver. very soft. I’m using coffee shampoo ( in case that helps it grow quicker ? May not , but can’t hurt). I’m off to see hairdresser next week to check in. I still have fingers crossed as I’d love wavey hair but ..........

I have a decent black hat I now wear out when shopping ( but doesn’t work  that well at night ). I went out last night and just rocked what I had .Over covering up .
  • Yours looks respectable - I looked like a little lamb! White frizz. And no I wasn’t particularly grey before. It grew and got darker - so luxuriant grey frizz!  Repeated trims gradually got rid of both the grey and the frizz. I ended up with more brown colour than at the start. Eight years have increased the grey (I’m now 75) but my hair has straightened with a very slight wave. It all takes time. Seize the opportunity to try some new looks! Best wishes.
  • Hi @MicheleR Your hair looks pretty normal to me. Everyone who I did chemo with had hair that ended up growing back exactly like that. Don't bother chopping it as it just comes back the same. Mine is normally brown and grew back a grey marble which I loved but it didn't last and is back to its mousy brown. However it use to have a slight wave and now it is an absolute riot of curls with no amount of trimming making a difference. Just go with the flow. Apparently this year the 'in' hair style is natural and messy, probably a covid flow on I reckon! I am over two years post chemo and I still get those rotten hot flushes but use a chilly towel at night which kinda helps. Your hair looks lovely and soft!
