Hair Loss?

Well 14 days post 1st round of AC chemo and all hair seems firmly planted. I expected to be losing clumps by now. Sounds weird but I just want this bit done and dusted so I can stop fretting about it. Anyways it seems I'll  be tortured by anxiety over longer periods instead.

  • Thanks all. Hair started falling out fay 17 and by day 19 I got it vlipped as the handfulls comingvout when washing was just too traumatic and my hair looked horrible anyway as so flat and the style was lost. Shaving it was empowering. I hate my wig....will be going back to look at something else it just feels too big for my head. I'm  actually more happy with my hats and scarves presently.

  • Hi Kath,

The loss of hair is telling the world the word 'cancer' is evident, it is our crown and natural to dredging the loss.

I got prepared, had my hair done (profile picture) and got a wig almost the same made.  Picked it up the day it started to fall out. Clippers at the wig shop and walked out with it on.  Emotional plus plus, but went to work next day and faced it.

We are all coping as best we can,  whatever works,  run with it and look on the hair loss as every cell is being hit, that's why we are doing this journey together.

Love to you and kick it''s not so hairy bleep.

  • The hair loss was definitely traumatic for me because it makes the whole thing real. Mine started falling out thick and fast after 3 weeks. I found it easier to shave it all off - so my pillow stopped looking like a fur ball every morning!

I was prepared and had pretty scarves and a real hair wig (which I found cooler than synthetic. More expensive but worth it, given I have to wear this thing for almost a year!).

I lost my eyelashes and eyebrows after 5 months of chemo. I found this hard because I'm not very good at drawing on eyebrows.

A friend of mine was having chemo (for breast cancer) at the same time as me. She used the cold caps during her sessions but still lost her hair the same time as me. Everyone is different though .

Goodluck with the rest of your treatment xx

  • Waving..  Sort of like the Pantene moment.  It won't happen overnight,  but it will happen LOL..  Such a strange place to be waiting and hoping it will not go but also just wanting it to be it over and done with.

Sending you hugs..  (you never know, it may stay, there is always a small chance!!!)

  • My oncologist said this morning after I have had 3 rounds of chemo, Oh you still have a little bit of hair, that's cool. Hubby was almost going to say, She's only got a little bit less than you, as the oncologist is balding himself lol.

  • Hi Kath,

I am 15 days post 1st AC chemo, and yesterday I experienced the magic trick of being able to present 20 or so hairs on demand any time I ran my fingers through it. It is a bit weird, and even though the nurse told me it would happen at the two week stage, it wasn't real until it started happening. Last night I grabbed my pillow and pulled out a hank of hair with it. When the kids are around, I offer my head to them with the words "make a wish!", which grosses them out. I have a social thing to go to tonight, then after that I am clippering it off, as it is just too messy.

You're right though, the anticipation is the worst, and I think many people end up getting a shorter cut, just to take back some control, which is what I did.

And anyway, you might end up being a statistical anomaly, and retain your hair..... everyone is so different.

    Good luck with your journey.

    Jane
