Furry mouth

Thank you for following up on this, been to the doctor, got the fungal stuff and other tablets to try and unblock my salvia glands so action has been taken.

It does sound like oral thrush and is common on chemo. Pop into chemist you can get drops and gel as you may need both as it can go down the throat. 

Glad to help. The furry mouth is disgusting and demoralising....someone on here described it as feeling the the back end of a dog’s a**e which I think is pretty accurate  :D

Caz1 thank you for sharing your experiences, from what you say, I am getting off very lightly indeed. It is improving so I am pleased and I can afford to lose some weigh. Good advice thank you, I will be better prepared next round. 

@KayB55 my mouth gets shredded every round of chemo.  Can relate.  So disappointing to cook up a nice meal for everyone and not be able to taste it. Sigh. 
Heres how I survive.
Soda  water, mineral water . Mt Franklin do mineral water with a spritz of fruit which I love. Avoid spicy food.  Yep eggs work for me too! Toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches. Stewed fruit . I can taste Japanese food and everyone laughs at me putting heaps of salt on my food so I can taste it.
YOGHURT is the best.  And when the ulcers are bad too, sometimes I have been known to go to the ice cream shop and buy myself a sundae for dinner.  Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!
I agree with a soft brush of the tongue. Slightly horrifying at how much gunk comes off.  :s EEEEEWWWW

Sister Adelaide Hills - Good point, I'll ring and make an appointment today, no point putting up with some things.

It's quite possible you've got oral thrush @KayB55.  Get it checked out at the GP.  I got it once during chemo and a couple of days sucking on the tablets (Fungilin or something like that from memory) got rid of it pretty quickly.

Many thanks for these ideas. Soda water is arriving tomorrow so I will experiment. I found some fruit juice actually helped reduce the fuzz and I actually 'enjoyed; some food.. I'll try all the rest tomorrow, perhaps avoiding the fizzy stuff coming out of my nose. Red wine for breakfast....... not there yet!  Still I am doing better than I expected and only one more chemo to go (hopefully). A wonderful friend came over and gave me a foot massage today, it didn't help my mouth issues but my goodness I want her to come every day from now on.........This is yet another thing that is going down on my list of things to be ready to do for friends in the future. These are the kindness moments that are solid gold.  

eeewwww chemo mouth.  Gross.  The soda water is good as is bi carb rinse. Add salt to everthing so it tastes like some form of food.  Peppermints, the old style chalky ones,can't remember the name but I think I ate my body weight in them.  Fruit tingles are awesome.
Red wine still tasted the same to me but I am sure there is some boring rule about having that for breakfast :)
