First AC treatment day 1

I have just had my first AC treatment today. I'm feeling ok at the moment but I guess I feel bit tired now its 6.30pm was out of clinic at 1.30pm. I feel a bit gassy though in my stomach dont feel sick tho just burping alot although could maybe contributed with the Hungry Jack cheeseburger I ate after I finished?  I guess will have to see how I am on day 2 I'm hoping that it will be similar today as I have tolerated ok so far.

  • Well done, @Karenp23 for knocking over your first chemo - how are you going?  My husband used to get incredibly tired after day 3 & would just put himself to bed for a couple of days til he felt better.

Hoping you aren't getting too nasty side effects.  All the best xx
  • Congrats on getting your treatment started x hopefully all is going well , I had AC as well and it was tough , no energy, on day 2 my vision always blurred for at least 3 days, nausea, metallic taste in my mouth constantly and the worst reflux, I dreaded chemo day, but got through it :)
All the best for your treatment
  • Congratulations on starting treatment! Its a relief to get started, isn't it. I had my first AC on the 14/11 and I was ok the first 2 days but then days 3-5 I was a bit of a zombie. I had no nausea which was great but very very weary, achey and foggy headed. It's been slowly improving since then but still having trouble sleeping at night. I hope you continued to have a good run with yours and the reflux didn't get too much. All the best
  • @Karenp23 congratulations on getting through the first one,!!!
I forgot about the gasiness until you mentioned it.  I used coloxyl also and that helped.  For the reflux I had to have Nexium from my GP.  The good news is, I dont need either now I have finished chemo.
Good luck for the rest of the chemo, pamper yourself  :)
  • Congratulations on starting treatment. Its always a relief when you get started I think!
I found AC doable and these are the things that helped: exercise, I walked for 40 minutes every day, I think it helps with side effects, take something preemptively for constipation (I used coloxyl with senna) and there is some anecdotal evidence on overseas forums that claratyne tablets (simple hayfever pills) can help you avoid bone pain related to the neulasta injection. Take them daily from about day 2-5.
    Good luck with it!
  • Well done @KarenP23 Eating junk food after treatment is the norm for a lot of people. I came across a lot of people that craved hamburgers, even if they didn’t normally eat them. Get some reflux tablets from your doctor next time and this will help combat that burping. Big hugs
  • Bloating and gassiness was one of my big side effects. Nothing seemed to help it. Keep on top of constipation as it seems to worsen it. I found day 3 and 4 were worse. Drink and rest as you need.
  • Dear @Karenp23,
You are off to a good start; hope your AC treats you well. Mine is 2 1/2 years behind me, and I was a lucky one as far as side-effects go. You will have info from  your treatment centre and a breast cancer nurse and/or clinic staff if you need more info/support. Main  thing I have learnt about AC from this fabulous network is that there are patterns (when nausea or tiredness is likely to hit, when hair starts to go! and others), but everyone is different. Many people find it helps to keep a diary of treatment an side-effects.

  • Well done for getting #1 of A/C put to bed. Take each day, and if necessary each hour, one at a time. There is always someone here if you wish to chat, or have any questions. I'm sure other members will soon hop on to cheer you on from the sidelines. Big hug.
