Expander Update 2

Thought I would do an update. I know I go looking for other posts from people doing the expander then silicon implant process so it may be helpful to others.

I am now past half way in the expansion process. 150ml  was put in each side in operation (not 100ml as I first thought). Two weeks after surgery I had 60ml and have done that each week. Had to have a break for one week because I had a low grade infeciton so they sent me home with no fill and a script for antibiotics. Fortunately, it cleared up. I know some people have terrible trouble with infections and end up having the expanders taken out so I was relieved my infection didn't progress further.

Thought I should pass this on: I was using silicon gel on my scars (drain scars and mastecomy scars). My surgeon suggested it. However, my plastic surgeon said this is possibly why I got the infection. He said there is no point trying to reduce the scarring at this stage anyway because they will all be cut open again for the exchange surgery in a few months. So basically the advice is, don't touch the scars!

I am now at 330ml. I take some paracetemol after each fill but they are not too bad. I will go to 450ml after which I will go to Thailand to celebrate my 50 birthday with my family.

Then I will wait 3 months for the exchange op.

I know the expanders are high and more uncomfortable than the silicon implants will be but I have to say I don't mind the look of them at all. They look fine under most clothes and I love not wearing a bra.

  • Hi Michelle

Yes, we've all gone through enough pain by the time we get to this point, haven't we. Sometimes it seems neverending. You just want to say to them all, "Can everyone please stop hurting me!".

The fill I had yesterday seems worse than the others. Bit of an uncomfortable night. Another woman further down the track did warn me that the later ones get harder.

Can totally understand you enjoying your new small bumps. And how great is it not to worry about bras etc.

Have you decided how many mls you will have in the end?

How lovely that you will having a trip to Paris at this point.

    Sonya

  • First fill is not until 26 august. My surgeon doesnt seem in a hurry. My skin has been very tender so i'm happy to wait. I did try to put it off until i get back from france in september but my plastic surgeon joked that i will need boobs for paris. To be honest I really like just the small bumps after being concave on one side for 13 months and a large droopy on the other. Just paracetomol for the fills sounds great as i'm not keen on any more pain.

  • Thanks, Michelle. Glad it was useful for you. Have you started your fills? How is it going for you?
