Whenever I feel a sore throat coming on - I gargle Betadine (very watered down - only a couple of drops in enough water for 2 mouth rinses) and spit it out ..... and/or soluble aspirin which I gargle & swallow at night if it has got a hold! Seems to stop it in it's tracks.
The Betadine mix tastes like shit tho (sort of a metallic taste that is similar to when you get some silver oil on a metal tooth filling .....) but worth it!! ;)
