ALA for PN (Peripheral Neuropathy)
Just thought I would share the success I've had with Alpha Lipoec Acid for my peripheral neuropathy.
It's an antioxidant support, I've been taking 1 tablet with breakfast and dinner, 400mg (says you can up to 3 a day) suggested by my Med Onc and it has really helped!
I hope others may have success with it too xx

- poodlejulesMemberHi all, I just googled it too out of interest . So far, 1 year and a bit post chemo, haven't experienced any PN. I take ground flaxseed nearly everyday and walnuts every other day. Notable ingredient in both? ALA! Also found in chia and hemp seeds amongst other foods. Here's a list :
Common name Alternate name Linnaean name % ALA†(of oil) ref. Chia chia sage Salvia hispanica 64% [11] Kiwifruit seeds Chinese gooseberry Actinidia chinensis 62% [11] Perilla shiso Perilla frutescens 58% [11] Flax linseed Linum usitatissimum 55% [11] Lingonberry cowberry Vaccinium vitis-idaea 49% [11] Camelina camelina Camelina sativa 35-45% Purslane portulaca Portulaca oleracea 35% [11] Sea buckthorn seaberry Hippophae rhamnoides L. 32% [12] Hemp cannabis Cannabis sativa 20% [11] Walnut English walnut / Persian walnut Juglans regia 10.4% [13] Rapeseed canola Brassica napus 10% [2] Soybean soya Glycine max 8% [2] †average value - Kiwi_AngelMember@sister I have tried them - quite yummy!!
- RomlaMemberJust read this on Herbs app from MSKCC.
“ALA may antagonize the effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.”
Be wise and check with your oncologist first. - RomlaMemberSeen the kalettes but not game as my tribe very anti-Brussel sprouts sadly so will have to wait until they are out to indulge.
- SisterMemberLove a sprout! Apparently, Coles have a new veg called kalettes - kale crossed with brussel sprouts. You can get your sprout fix and keep the kale-cure-all crowd happy at the same time!
- RomlaMember@Joannie agreed always check with your oncologist before taking anything. Natural food sources include Brussel sprouts and Broccoli.I love Brussel sprouts and for those that don’t There is a wonderful Brussel Sprouts soup recipe that you would never guess sole vegetable ingredient is Brussel sprouts - and they are in season now.
- PatsyNMemberI took concentrated green tea capsules, but not during chemo or radiation. I took one a day and discovered that they made me really nauseous. Too concentrated for my delicate stomach.
