3rd Chemo

Hi all, Just had my 3rd FEC Chemo. This is the last FEC then I change to docetaxel. I was very happy that the nurse got the cannula in first time today! Bad bit is I'm feeling more nausea straight away this time. Is the nausea side effect less with docetaxel? Deanne xxoo

  • Ah how I remember FEC, or the RED DEVIL, or what I called it "Paint Stripper".  I asked for more anti nausea meds.  I kept a diary, and wrote down everything in it.  I printed out a report for the 2nd and 3rd one and took it to my Oncologist, much to his delight (smile).  If its real bad, ring the hospital where you had your chemo, or the onc straight away, dont suffer in silence.  Drink lots of water the 2 days before veins get used, I learnt from a nurse it opens the veins.  Its too late trying to drink water that day for that.  But the water needs to be continuous to flush out the toxins and help you feel better.  I was told to eat something, better than nothing.  Check my posts.  I lived on grapes and watermelon, home juices, home made soup, or when I was tired, fruit smoothies.   I also had hideous indigestion, which is rare apparently, but thanks to this website and the great advice, I got onto Nexium for that and it allowed me to eat.  Good luck, you will be different to everyone else, so hopefully you will sail through.  Tax is so much easier! Taxotere I had.  xx Bel

  • Hi Deanne. It's fantastic that you've finished the first three cycles on the FEC drug. I was pretty much the same as Mel with 4 AC cycles and not much nausea. I had no nausea with Docetaxel at all. But I did suffer from other side effects but this may not happen to you. Remember everyone reacts differently with these drugs. I am sending you big hugs and positive thoughts that the Docetaxel will be easier on you. Does this mean you are half way through chemo? If you are, then you're over the hump :) Lots of love coming your way, Jane xxx
  • I found that the nausea was way less on docetaxel and I was only prescribed minimal drugs in comparison to the huge amount of meds I would take before my 4 AC chemos. Congrats on knocking over one type of chemo. Fingers crossed that you find the next lot much kinder to your mind and body. I did find i Iost my eyebrows and eyelashes on about my 4th or 5th docetaxel which was my lowest point. For whatever reason I was fine with my hair starting to go exactly a week after my first chemo but devastated when my eyelashes and eyebrows went. They grew back quite rapidly though my brows are quite patchy its not noticeable to others only to me. If you havnt already booked yourself in get yourself into a look good feel better day if there's one near you and take a friend as its a fantastic day :) Be kind to your self and look after you before anyone else Love Mel xxx
  • Hey DeanneCongrats on reaching 3 down!!!!!  I found I didn't have any nausea with docetaxel but then I suffered only some nausea with FEC and nothing major so I may not be a good one to confirm it for you.  I will definitely keep everything crossed for you that nausea becomes a thing of the past for you now.Lots of love always Mich xoxoxoxo
