1st FEC Done - update

No wasn't Phenergan. It was prescribed, its ATIVAN, just found the name of it. For some reason it helps with nausea, it was the only thing that helped through the times of nausea and help me sleep til it passed. Definitely worth asking about.

Possibly phenergan Melclarity. ..makes you pretty sleepy but works well.

Hope it all goes well Leila for the next one!!! They worked out I was allergic to Maxalon, so Im thinking Stematil may be better. I had something else, cannot recall what it was, but it was like an anti anxiety type med and they made me take it pre infusion orally. Strangely this was the only thing that helped with the Nausea. Definitely take something from the get go and stay on top of the nausea, you shouldnt be vomiting. Hugs

Thanks for all your kind words and advice, I hope that next time will be better now that we know how I went after first go. I got changed over from Maxalon to Stamatil (?) and that seems to be working well. I had been taking everything given to me, but it seemed that I probably didn't get the chance to absorb it as I was then chucking it back up :(

im pleased that you didn't leave it too long before going to ED. I waited 4 days after my first chemo as I thought that was just how it was meant to be. On top of the vomiting and not being able to keep even water down, I had the runs as well. I spent the whole 4 days on the toilet with a bucket in my lap. It was awful. I was hospitalised for 5 days and told in future to not let it go anymore that 24 hours if I couldn't keep anything down. The onc's made adjustments for every chemo I had to try to relieve the side effects including changing me from carboplatin to cyclophosphomide half way through. Lemonade icy poles became my best friend. When I couldn't eat, along with water, they were one of the few things I could actually keep down. For me, they gave me higher doses of dexamethasone (cortisone) for longer periods, gave me ondansetron wafers and gave me more anti nausea stuff in my infusion.  Hopefully with the changes they can make, you will have a better time with the following chemos. ouch - that is the pits... but they will.sort your anti nausea meds out...

And I found nausea and other 'violent' severe reachtions wise the 1st chemo to be the worst... to me.it seams kike my.body just recated really violently and almost like rebelled in every way it could to reject the toxic sludge...

They adjusted my steroids and lengthened the time I was on them as they help.keep those reactions at bay as well and I found the subeseqnet chemos to be far more easily tollerated... Downside od longer steroids was all.over body trush but no violent GI reactions...

Just hang in there and make sure you keep them up to date on all reactions and they will find the right meds to.help your body manage

Lemon squeezed in some cold water is great for nausea... grapefruit and just munching on it - more sucking on it like it is a lollypop is fantastic as well... also ginger...

Glad you are on the up and up now.  Scary time behind you now.

Sorting that nausea stuff and taking meds whether feeling sick or not is crucial. I ended up on ondasetron and stemitil (ondasertron just before meals in wafer form and stemitil strictly 6 hourly ) plus required steroids for 4 days. Sounds a lot but made my chemo (ACT-H) quite bearable. As to water....I drank mineral water...slightly flat. Normal water made me feel sick on AC. Saladas were my friend. By the 3rd cycle I needed less days on meds as the nausea was so much better controlled. Hope the coming days are better and your next round much improved. Kath x

So sorry to hear this, make sure you communicate everything to your Team, it will take some tweaking to get on top of your side effects being your first infusion. 

Hang in there, day at a time, youre doing great! I hardly ate with constant nausea, so its not unusual.

Hi Leila, you poor love. From my experience the oncologist will add more anti nausea tablets which are given during your next chemo. That's what happen to me. And once they kicked in all my next chemo session were OK. 

Look after yourself and keep us posted.
