1st chemo cycle

Hi All, This is my first post to an online group but I have been reading others posts as I navigate this roller coaster. This is my second experience with the disease that we all share. The first was in 2008 on my first breast screen ever! Very small ,lumpectomy and radio, as nodes clear. This year with my annual screening a new tumour in the other side but HER2 pos, so lumpectomy, chemo x4 ,radio and 3 weekly Herceptin for a year. The side effects of the Docetaxal vary every day but the worst is the complete stripping of my gut lining, so now on Xylocaine viscous and Nexium which is helping. I am debating about weekly doses at smaller amounts but this will prolong the course. Anyone else done this? Has anyone else experienced this pain? It feels like I have swallowed a packet of razor blades and I have reflux anyway, Thank you all for your time and best wishes for Xmas Angela

  • Thanks Simone, I have been taking 40mg twice a day and it has definitely helped. The Xylocaine viscous I took for 2 days also helped as it coats your gut lining with local anaesthetic, unfortunately it made me really dizzy! You just can't win ! But at least I am better prepared for the next round, Cheers Angela
  • I know how you feel. By the end of the second cycle I had really painful heartburn, all the time. My oncologist put me on Nexium 20mg (it takes a while to start working) it did make things better but I was still uncomfortable, so he recommended doubling the dose, that finally made the pain go completely. If you are on 20mg maybe talk to your doc about upping the dose. Simone
