Letrazole side effects
Does any of this sound familiar?
I have aching legs, they feel tired and weak.
The muscles feel tight when I wake up in the morning. I haven't done any extreme exercise, although it feels like I have.
Could this be a side effect of Letrazole? I've been on it since December.
I hadn't noticed this until last few weeks. I'm seeing my Oncologist in July and will ask him too.
I'm 62 and I'm starting to wonder if it is age, as a problem, but I have my doubts.
I don't feel unwell otherwise.

- Yes I’m on Letrozole got diagnosed mestatic breast cancer (bones) nov last year so I’m on ribociclip spelt it wrong lol but this last week bad pains in legs especially in mornings not so bad during day didn’t know if it’s Letrozole or injections for ur bones
had scans few weeks ago my cancer has not spread stayed same which is good - arpieMemberHmmmm ... Start off with trying Panadol (which is what the GP would advise as well, most likely.) Or Ibuprofen - but make sure you take food with it. I reckon it is Unlikely to be carpal tunnel at this stage @Locksley - most likely just a side effect of the Letrozole unfortunately. My hands were incredibly painful at one stage (particularly around the base of the thumb) - also had 'trigger finger' where one would 'lock' in the bent position & wouldn't straighten without assistance ..... I changed to Exemestane after 6 weeks & lasted 6 months on that .... then went to Arimidex & been on it for 2.5 years now, with a little discomfort but nowhere near as much as the other AIs. Everyone is different. Some hate Arimidex.
Even now, I occasionally have acute pain in the hands or feet ... but it passes ....
Keep a diary of anything 'new' happening to your body (feet & shoulders as well) and if things are escalating, get an early appt with your Onc and discuss your options - whether to try a different AI .....
I am also on the 'good oil' so I do believe that is relieving some of my symptoms, too. ;). All the best. xx - FLCloverMember@Locksley I had similar pain in my right hand 2-3 months into my Letrozole. My GP sent me to do an MRI of the neck, which showed possible cause, but when I told my oncologist he said better to get checked for carpal tunnel instead. It wasn’t an invasive test, and was done publicly. The dr attached node-like things to my hand, then she used a machine to send pings (like an electrical current) to my hand and record the reaction on her computer. She did a series of similar tests with that little machine on both hands and it was relatively unpainful. It showed I was losing mass in my right hand and that yes, it was carpal tunnel. She advised to either change medication and get a shot, or to stay on the medication and have surgery. I chose to change medication and have the shots in both hands. It feels much better on the Arimidex and I’m having a reassessment test done next week so I can hopefully avoid surgery. Please ask your gp or onc to refer you to do a similar test as it’s best caught early.
- AfraserMemberI’ve been on letrozole for eight years and never had any pain so perhaps best to see your GP. Many people do get joint pains but it may be something else, so easiest to check and also see what, if anything, can be done to reduce the pain. Best wishes.
- LocksleyMemberI've been on letrozeole for 2 months. Yesterday I had a little pain in my right hand. Woken up like it's badly sprained. Can't bend it and very painful. Could this be carpel tunnel. Do I need to see gp. Showering and getting dressed was very difficult.
- SisterMemberWould be wonderful if the oil was really available over the counter or even reasonably by script.
- FLCloverMemberGoodness @Keeping_positive1 😳. I’m glad the Arimidex is a bit gentler on you. And taking breaks is ok from what I’ve read. 🤞🤞 all the treatments have done their job
- I was getting carpal tunnel syndrome on Arimidex and I have intermittent breaks from this tablet and the carpel tunnel syndrome symptoms go away then. I am very reluctant to go back on any AI's and my oncologist says it has probably done its job within the first 2 - 3 years in my case. Never quite sure why I was first told I need it for 5 years when I was first diagnosed. It is explained to me that I am more likely to get a recurrence from the tumor that was HER2 + .
I tried Letrozole in 2019 for 6 months, and had to stop that as I couldn't even toilet myself properly as my elbow joints were so stiff, tmi.. sorry! So I then went back onto Arimidex. I won't completely stop Arimidex, but I will be having breaks from it from time to time. My mental clarity is not very good on AI's also. There are alternatives to Letrozole, and it has to be weighed up with QOL.
Take care. - noosa_blue150MemberI’m just back from seeing my oncologist , having been on femara /letrazole for approx 3 months now. I’ve been experiencing hot flushes (not that bad), and joint pain especially in hands .On a scale of 1-10 , probably only a 5 . I don’t have any medical issues . Oncologist has suggested a trial,of glucosaminehttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3810608/I’m passing this on BUT One should check in with own doctor of course in case you have any medical conditions that may preclude this as a option .
- FLCloverMember@Mummy0297 oh ok, fair enough, that makes sense. It’s a good plan. It gives you time to see how it goes and what side effects are connected to the L. Let’s hope the carpal tunnel goes away for good 🤞
