Dosage os Tamoxifen

I have just started on 20mg of tamoxifen but I get zero sleep on it. I have had breast cancer previously and took 10mg tamoxifen and coped quite well, this time however my oncologist wants me on 20mg. It seems like a double edged sword, if I am not sleeping I can take more drugs to help me sleep. I do not want to go down that path. It was eight years between my two cancers so I figure the 10 mg must of done something but my doctor is now saying either tolerate the 20mg or take nothing. Any other ladies been down this path?  My decision at the end of the day I suppose if I take anything or not, but have to live with that decision also. It is 2.18am, this is day five of no sleep

  • Thank you, ultimately our choice but at the same time want to give ourselves the best opportunity for a healthy life, although cancer changes everybody forever I think
  • Thanks for your reply kiwi angel I have appointment today with GP so will speak to her about melatonin. I am questioning whether these medications they prescribe are beneficial or detrimental, certainly not easy for those who are taking and suffering with them. The specialists and oncologists are doing what they know to do but I often wonder if they were to take these drugs whether they may change their hard core attitude about them. Not feeling very charitable about this at the moment, too sleep deprived. Admire all ladies out there going through same.
  • @Pink I have been on that dose for about 6 weeks now and the main problem for me is sleep disturbance. I have a sleeping tablet every Thursday night (the end of my working week) and I got a script for melatonin 2mg which I take every night and it does seem to help a lot. I still wake up but I’m able to generally get back to sleep pretty quickly where as before melatonin if I was awake that was it for the night. Also ordered some 10mg melatonin online from iherb but I haven’t tried that yet. xoxo
