Wigs etc

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had my lumpectomy on 28 October.  For the first 2 chemos I had the cold cap but gave it up as having chemo every week found it too stressful.  On friday I go for my 6th chemo, halfway through and my hair is now starting to come out so today, with my daughter, went to get a wig and 2 turbans.  I tried on about 15 wigs and although my hair is silver/grey decided on a brown/auburn wig and 2 turbans all for free.  The lady volunteer who helped us (Denise) was lovely and so helpful and supportive.  In a couple of weeks I am going to the 'Look Good feel better' workshop.   I just want to say that the breast cancer support services in the Perth area in Western Australia are fantastic.  Looking and reading other peoples journey I realise mine is relatively easy (so far)   Still have radiation to come.  Thank you to all the people who donate money and time from a grateful lady on an unwanted journey.

    Lynds so great to hear you have found such great support! I didnt do the look good feel better but Ive heard its wonderful! I didnt have cold capping either as my Oncologist said with using FEC it wouldnt be successful, so I found some wonderful wigs that got me through the entire time. There is alot of great support, I too feel very blessed!!! and sharing this space with such an amazing bunch of women traveling different paths but all of us on the same journey is so comforting!!!     Sorry to hear the cap turned out stressful, but honestly  - I found having no hair during chemo a huge hassle saver. Once showering became a chore I was counting my blessings that I didn't have to lather and rinse!

    Look Good Feel Better is great! I had so much fun. Put your hand up to have examples done on you and wigs put on if you're game, I found it more fun once I got really involved. They're very respectful and won't make a show of anyone who just wants to sink into the background, which you may want to do, but the room will be filled with other people going through the same kind of changes, or about to. :heart:

    Good luck, you sound as if you are dealing with treatment well. I too wore a wig through chemo, and was encouraged to go for a warmer tone than my brown/grey hair. I felt remarkably well through chemo but a new hairdo with my wig was actually a bit of a boost. It was light and easy to look after. Of course I was happier when my own hair grew back, even though it didn't look anywhere as good to begin with! Keeping your morale up and feeling as good as possible is a huge asset as you go through treatment. Best wishes, only 6 more to go, you'll be looking at new hair growing in no time.

    Glad you have found something you feel comfortable with. Hoping treatment continues to be tolerable.
