Turmeric

Hi Ladies
This is Kathy from BCNA's Policy Team. I wanted to jump in here and recommend to you the Sloane Memorial Kettering Cancer Centre's About Herbs website. It lists a whole bunch of herbs (do you like that pun?!) and the evidence for their use, interactions with medicines and potential side effects. It advises that turmeric can interfere with chemotherapy drugs, including doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide. So if you are having chemo treatment, you should be very wary of using it. Turmeric can also cause skin allergies. We always advise women to talk to their medical oncologist or cancer specialist about any complementary herbs or medicines they are considering using - just to be sure they are safe with your breast cancer treatments. The About Herbs website is also available as an app for your phone. I highly recommend it.
