Time has flown
Cannot believe it was July when I last posted a blog! With chemo finished it was on to the Radiation for 5 weeks and life was taken up with travelling to and from and having the treatments Monday thru Friday. Apart from taking up best part of the day, the treatments themselves were a doddle HOWEVER the aftermath was "interesting". Fortunately I had a super Dr and nursing team who quickly got me on to a magic cream that fixed up the severe burning really quickly. Since then we have had to trips away which have been great - sort of a line drawn under the treatment period. Mind you Day 2 of the second trip I developed Shingles (talk about add insult to injury!), a visit to a medical centre enroute and some anti viral medication helped it from becoming too severe and I thanks to painkillers and some lovely wine (we were staying in SA wine country), had a super time.
Read with interest the post re the feeling (or lack there of) following a masectomy. I can certainly relate to that. I was warned but you really cannot comprehend what it will be like till you experience it. The tighteness across the check, the semi numb feeling, occassional aches and pains, the puffiness etc. etc. I have found a wonderful massage lady who specialises in lymphatic system massage for breast cancer patients and it has been a huge help. I try to use her massage techniques plus my occupational therapist exercises 2-3 times a day. Re. the prothesis, I struggle to wear it some days, particularly with the summer weather and only wear it when I am off out somewhere!
Finding hormone treatment a bit of a problem with the side effects of bad joint/back pain and my asthma increasing, so will be off to see the specialist in the new year to get that sorted.
BUT I am alive and prognosis excellent and currently planning a trip overseas for 2013 and that is was really counts.
