One year today!
One year ago today,at 1.15 pm,I sat in my surgeons office, waiting for the results of my core biopsy.A week earlier,he had sent me home with a book ,titled,Early Breast Cancer, and he said,if the result is. negative, you can simply throw the book away.
I found it hard to look at that little book.I couldn't read it at night,or on a cloudy day, and I found it easier to read sitting in the sun!! He came into the office, and asked me how I was.I remember I said " good" then he said this,"Well I have the results of your core biopsy, and as we thought,it's a cancer" .
Hardly remember anything else after that.I replied with "aw yep", and then my daughter,( who had come with me because my husband was overseas) took over.
I remember my mouth was so dry ,even my tongue went dry,and my hands were stone cold.I couldn't keep my feet still, and I kept rubbing them back and forth on the carpet.
My daughter was trying to hold my hand, and at the same time, she was writing in the book she had brought along,as the surgeon told us what the next step was.
That day is as clear as yesterday,to myself and also to my gorgeous daughter.
A defining moment in my life, for sure!!!
Today,I feel well.I have had my yearly checkup, and I will have my onco checkup in 2weeks.
So to any ladies out there, who are just starting out on this bugger of a journey, try to remember that it does finish, and life resumes again, for most of us.
For the ladies that are not as lucky as me,I think about you most days, and hope that a cure for BC is very very close.
Take care everyone.Cheers xoxRobyn

- adeanMemberHow good does it feel, life is great when you've passed that first milestone, and you get ready for the next, that day when they say you've got cancer disappears a little into your memory bank, we never get over it but we get past it. Love and hugs to you adean xx

- Robyn_WMemberYes,the human spirit is incredibly strong Deanne.I am still exercising too.My friend had a lumpectomy the first time, and now she says she wishes she had just gone ahead with a mastectomy then.I am hoping she will be okay. All we can do is focus on doing the best we can.I feel really great at the moment, and for that I am so thankful.Stay in touch won't you Deanne, and take care of yourself.xoxRobyn
- SilksMemberCongratulations and thank you for sharing your milestone with us. When starting out it seems like such a long journey. Your post shows that it does pass and we can come to terms with it all. You are a very caring person and like all of the the other responses you have received, I too am really happy for you. Love reading your posts. Xxx Silke
- DeanneMemberI'm doing well (still exercising!). I hope your friend will be ok. I am just so thank-ful for each day that I feel good. We have been inundated with friends who have not been so fortunate with cancer diagnoses lately. One who is only 27 and given 50/50 odds for melanoma, 2 with terminal bowel cancer (the younger only 49 who lost her battle last week) and another lovely friend who has a terminal lung condition. It is so sad but they have all been inspiring with their desire to still get as much out of life as possible. The human spirit is so strong. Xxx
