Did you know that Comminsure plays dirty tricks on cancer pat
Did you know that Comminsure plays dirty tricks on cancer patients disabled by chemotherapy?.
Comminsure is the insurance wing of the Commonwealth Bank. They paid out my trauma cover section of my insurance because I had invasive breast cancer, which was lovely. But they then set up a clever little scam aimed at preventing me from getting any more bites at the apple I may be entitled to. This will be the case if I have a recurrence of cancer (or any other itemised trauma event on their list) after the policy is reinstated in 12 months time.
A couple of months ago a nice young lady rang to tell me that my premiums for the component parts of my life insurance and total care insurance and income protection policies had changed. Some parts would cost more and some would cost less, but overall they would be taking less money from me in my monthly direct credit payment to them.
But what they actually did was to stop taking the money for the premium for the trauma cover. After doing this for a number of months, I was in arrears without knowing it. They then (still without a word to me) scheduled the policy to be cancelled in July.
Luckily, I was so brain-fogged, I had accidentally let my account run right out of money just before their June payment, so the payment bounced. I then discovered what they were up to in time to nip their little scheme in the bud.
I am really pissed off. I very much doubt that I am the only person they have done this to. Because of the chemotherapy, I am mostly very fatigued, and brain-fogged, to the point where I am really not handling finances etc very well at present. This makes me a sitting duck for this sort of trick. They could very easily have got away with it, and if I had then objected, I am sure they would have told me it was because I was not paying my premiums, whereas in fact they had a direct credit that allowed them to decide how much they were taking out, so it was totally them failing to collect the money.
Any suggestions on what I could and should do about this utterly unethical act?
