4 Years and Counting
Saw the good Professor yesterday who confirmed my recent mammogram and ultrasound were all clear - so happy and relieved.
It is now 4 years on from my diagnosis and mastectomy for 3 tumours (2 large invasive lobular cancers, both hormone positive, and 1 smaller invasive ductal which was HER2 positive, plus 1 positive lymph node), and from those dark days when I wondered if I'd be here to tell the tale. I can't lie, it was a tough 12 months of treatment but with all things there is both darkness and light; my light being the support from good friends (a few have dropped away), the care from unexpected quarters where new friends have been made and the wonderful support I have had from many on this network, particularly leading up to and throughout my reconstruction in 2014. My first step into the online world was through this network and it has opened up a whole other world of friendship and practical support that has been so helpful throughout the past few years.
I just want to say to those who are new, please reach out if you are needing support or want to ask a question. While it is so terribly sad that there are so many of us out there who have been, or going through breast cancer treatment, there is also a wonderful network of people here that can help to make the ordeal just a bit more bearable.

Thanks Anne-Marie, I'm glad the post helped in some small way. I'm generally a positive person too but treatment and all the emotional stuff that goes with breast cancer can really make you question everything and sets up a whole new level of anxiety that most of us have probably never had to face before. I remember after one of my teary sessions with my surgeon asking if I'd live to tell the tale and he gave me such a gentle, kind and compassionate look and said, yes, you will, and that has been one of those moments I have held on to ever since. Thanks Deanne, I'm quite the convert to online interactions now - even use (& enjoy) Facebook after years of saying I wasn't ever going to! Had a quiet couple of drinks with my hubby at a lovely place in North Sydney to celebrate and had a pink bun afternoon tea with the kids yesterday :-)

So true, every clear scan, test, mammogram is a great feeling and it's wonderful to put the anxiety aside for a while :-) Hope you enjoyed your pink buns - the kids and I love them! Jane xx
Four years all clear, nice! Happy cancer free birthday to you, and many mooooooore!
So up lifting reading your post. I'm finished chemo and about to start Radiothreapy, although I'm a positive person with lots of support, sometime my mind wonders.....will I get over all this, etc etc.

Congratulations Jane! This network was also my first experience with on-line interactions. It has been my best source of support ever since my diagnosis 3 years ago. Hope you celebrated your 4 year milestone in style!
