Zoladex Implant- painful?

Had them when first diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer as the Tamoxifin didn't work for me any more. They don't hurt.   Used ice packs for about 5-10mins before hand.  Usually not a problem, plus don't need a second injection & it saves time & usually reduces any chance of bruising.  I would get an ice pack when the staff where starting to get ready for me & by the time they were organised, drug checked etc, I was ready & had it either sitting or lying (nurse's preference) & then went home.  I do tend to bleed a little, so always had a covering put over injection site.  Didn't once & had stained undies  :/

Dad gets his done in the chemo chair which has the added benefit here that he doesn't have to go and get a prescription filled out first. They rubbed some sort of numbing crème into his belly a good 20mins before they gave him the injection and he says, yes it still feels quite uncomfortable but it doesn't take long and its done for another three whole months.

Hi! @Bella28  do you know the state of your ovaries?  Are they healthy, shrinking or pre something or other?  I am coming to the end of Zoladex treatment (shout it from the roof tops Yay), an injection very 4 weeks, 26 total with 4 to go.  I have checks on a regular basis and my endometrium has thickened slightly and is being monitored and my ovaries are very healthy I was told after the last check - next check is due in June at the end of Zoladex treatment.  Bruising - yes one month there it was a doozy!

@Bella28 yep me............. had my ovaries removed last June.......... had the Zoladex implants for 3 months prior to keep my ovaries "out of order"........ It was an easy decision for me & I was adamant i wanted my ovaries removed. It wasn't like I needed them anymore and, it also took away any chance of ever developing ovarian cancer. Was a win win situation I thought.

I had my ovaries out in late December 2016. I've got a recurrence after 10 years, am 53 and was perimenopausal at the time. I'll be moving into hormone treatment now my chemo is done and didn't want to muck around with Zolodex. No regrets at all, but then I was that close to being menopausal anyway. Just saying though, watch the last step, it's a doozy. I'm sure the sweating will stop. Eventually...

This is good advice. I  just had my 2nd injection non Monday 6th March. Yes it hurt and I had a little pain afterward and small bruising. I also did not consider asking for something to numb the area. I think when my oncologist suggested the zoladex, I thought yep I can cope with needles now after all the needles I have had. However for me it's different. I am considering surgery to have my ovaries removed. 
Has anyone gone through this decision making process recently.

I am on Zoladex to protect my ovaries whilst on chemo..my local GP just pops it in and yes it does hurt. Did not think you can get numbing stuff.. oh well. :(

I was given this thing called 'cool sense' a cold thing kept in the freezer to hold on my belly for a couple of minutes before the injection, didn't feel a thing. They also use it on my port site before they use the gripper needle, I felt that a little bit but not bad
