You're beautiful.

Just wanted to share something special.

I met another inpatient shortly after my bilateral mastectomy - a 60+ gentleman. We'd catch up in the corridors on our respective walks and chat, including a little on why we were here. The morning he was discharged he popped around to say goodbye and surprised me by taking my hand and said 'And remember, you're always beautiful'. And then toddled off.

That was so sweet!

Hope you all remember that too, because you are all beautiful.

  • Ha! Saw a TED talk the other day that talked about how what we see in the mirror is different to what people see. Something about having two mirrors, one angled at about 90 degrees to the other, would give a true image. Anyway, food for thought. Dad and Billy must be real lookers.

  • Hi Ruth, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I think the world has the concept of beauty all mixed up. It's not those skinny young magazine models we see. There is something incredibly beautiful about a woman with quiet inner strength, courage, and compassion towards others. It's what we learn in this battle with bc. How poignant that this inner beauty can come from such tragedy. Wishing you more beautiful moments, Tracey ??

  • Great story but I looked in the mirror this morning and I saw my dad! (Crew cut) Or if I gel the hair maybe Billy Idol!
