I am finding it difficult to negotiate and get back to where I was on these online posts then I see someone else's and then others are popping up that weren't there before !!  But ?...I read a post from Nadi who said she had infiltrating ?carcinoma and no ? in the bone according to the scan? What does this mean ... And someone else  (sorry but can't find my way back to where I read this so no name able to be used) had heaps of tests including a bone scan ?? Is this routine for bc diagnosed people? Do I need to ask for one? Help

  • Hey Kathryn, here I am. I am newly diagnosed and have got the My Journey Kit which has information on the different types of BC, but the way my doctor explained my pathology results is that Infiltrating ductal carcinoma is the type which begins in the milk ducts and has the ability to spread to other tissue i.e., outside of the milk duct. I also have papillary features to my BC which I am also told is not good. The scans I have show no mass in bones or organs, but we won't be sure if cancer cells are in the lymph nodes until we have them removed and tested. Will have my first appointment with surgeon this Wednesday to discuss how many lymph nodes need to be removed.

  • Hi Kathryn. The terminology around BC can be confusing. If you've got your "My Journey" kit, there are explanations about the different types of bc in there, or on this website.

As far as other tests go, at some stage between diagnosis and chemo or radiation, most people have a raft of tests, including bone scan, abdominal and pelvic ultrasound, & possibly chest & abdominal CT.  These are all done to rule out further spread of cancer, to assist in planning what treatment will be required.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions, Lyn
