Where have all the lumps gone?

Hi All the battlers,

I had my six month from surgery appointment with the surgeon on Friday, he suggested I see a Breast Physio mainly to work on the scare tissue. He also thought laser treatment and ultrasound would be beneficial. Has anyone had these treatments to soften scare tissue? If so where can I find a good practitioner in Tamworth or Newcastle area.

regards

Kim

  • Great to hear Kim, sounds like you're well on the way to getting some improvement. I found that physios were an absolute godsend in improving my recovery from the various effects of surgery etc. Best wishes, Jane xx

  • Hi all I saw physio on Friday she was great, my McGarth nurse organised my appointment, it certainly is who you know! She is sure that  I don't have scaring but fluid so I am covered in black tap and have massage & exercises to move it. She also recommended a good fitting sports bra to compress the boob so fluid will not build up again. I am only just wearing a bra again after radio so I can manage this now but if that boob looses any more I will be lopsided. Somethings I feel a bit like Nemo. Wellness to all Kim

  • Thank you everyone for the advice. I actually do not have scares on the surface the surgeon did a wonderful job of making the incision around my areola so no visible scare. My problem is since radiation the tissue has hardened where the lump was removed. I am massaging. Acupuncture sounds extreme but if it works hey I will give it a go.

    best wishes to all

  • Hi Kim,

I have been using a silicon gel on my scars called Bepanthen - $20 a tube from Terry Whites and its worked a treat. My surgery was Nov and the scars were raised and lumpy but now smooth. Use the gel twice a day on them, dead easy. Don't know how big or tough your scars are but might be cheaper and easier than going to a physio as long as you don't react to the silicon.

  • Hi Kim, I didn't have the laser / ultrasound treatment but my physio did carry out dry needling (acupuncture) along my scar lines and despite my scepticism it actually worked immediately to soften the scar tissue. I would imagine the laser treatment would work the same way? You should be able to find a practitioner via the Australian Physiotherapist Assoc website, they have a find a physio function & you can see some of their specialties. Hope you find someone who suits:-)  Best wishes, Jane xx

  • Kim I haven't been to a breast physio but I too have been using Bio-Oil since my lumpectomy in October and please with results.

  • Hi Kim

I saw a breast physio who recommended using Bio-Oil.  I have since gone to a masseur who works on the scarring.  In between the three-weekly visits I massage along, around and across the scar in a circular motion - using Bio-Oil.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards   Summer  :-)
