  • I couldn't abide water its tasted thick and yucky strangley, I drank ginger beer and loads of poweraide. I too felt I smelled like chemicals and would pull my sheets back to air the bed and sprayed Aidairs linen spray on my sheets.

Lucky me didn't get ulcers but I gargled continuously I did get horendous diarrhoea so maybe have some Imodeum on hand just incase.

I finished my chemo about a month ago and I just noticed today that the hair on my legs is coming back, celebrations on regrowth.

Good luck with it all keep strong and we are all here supporting each other.

    cheers

    Donna

  • The side effects of chemo are something else.  Yes it is hard to describe the taste, smells and how you feel.  I used to spin my husband out with "hissy fits".  There is a blog somewhere on here about "how chemo affected you and tips" (something like that) which is full of great information which could be really helpful for you.  I used to eat food only because I knew I had to but it had no "normal" taste to me.  You will find certain foods that you will enjoy and others that you will never stomach again.  Just keep on trying. • I was the same I finished chemo in February, I would even shower twice a day I smelt like chemo, the taste in your mouth straight after chemo is terrible, try ginger ale, miso soup, even eating with plastic cutlery helped me. I found a really great natraupath on the Gold Coast who was brilliant, I didn't get any side effects except the fatigue and metallic mouth taste, I was on and are still on supplements. It's so different for every one Jody. Tracey x

  • Hi Jody, As the chemo affects all fast growing cells the cells in the mouth get affected causing the bad taste.  Although its commonly said to be metallic thats not how I would have described mine.  It really changes what food and drink you like and dislike and you might just have to experiment.  I found Fruit Tingles to be good! All the bestFiona
