whats the diff between bony mets and post chemo side effects

I have no idea what to look out for?? I have some osteo symptoms post chemo (7 months ago) that are manageable and are relieved when I exercise etc, and i dont need to take pain relief but how do you know if when or if to get concerned?? what is the difference between the bony mets pain and the osteo/post taxol etc side effects. I have spoken to my oncol about this last time and he said thats all it was as its not there all the time nor has it changed since treatment ended any hints would be appreciated. I feel great otherwise ?? Margie xx

  • I think its something we all think about, so agree good question, my fibromyalgia flares up so its anyones guess between post chemo, Arimidex or daily pain which Ive had for many years. I guess if youre concerned talk to your Onc about it.
  • Thanks for asking this question cause I have been having the same worry as of late.
  • I asked my onco the sane thing as I have an arthritic back and left hip pain which was there before diagnosis. What he said is ...pain tbat doesn't improve with exercise or position and wakes you at night. So I try to remember that with my aches and pains.
  • i asked last time I was at the oncol and everything was fine bloods were all good too and the scans I had when first diagnosed were all clear too and no lymph node involvement. He said its just the osteo type symptoms and I dont ache all the time at all thankfully, and I dont take any post chemo meds as I was triple negative. Due for bloods again next week then see oncol on 22nd. Thanks for the feedback ladies. Margie :)
  • @onemargie I'm of the view if it aches consistently then make sure you tell the GP or whoever you are seeing next!  A few months back I couldn't walk and my legs in particularly ached constantly.  Had the full body scan and everything turned out to be OK apart from the usual suspect of arthritis from previous injuries.  I had a bad reaction to my zoladex injection.  Peace of mind is what we look for!
  • Hi @onemargie, if the pain goes away on exercise & is not there all the time I imagine it would not be mets. I think you would be in pain all the time and when in bed. Chemo leaves you with more aches & pains. I had back pain that lasted for days but had only just started Femara so tried not to worry and it went. It comes back occasionally.
  • Prior to your chemo you probably had a CT scan and a bone density scan. If nothing was highlighted in the bones then it is unlikely to be metastasised only 7 months after chemo. It isn't easy to pick up in scans if its only in its infancy however if you are worried, ask for a blood test to check your white cell count as a high count rise may give an indication its something more than just osteo pains. I worry about the same sort of thing and I am one year post chemo.
