water, water, water - what to drink?

Anyone else struggling with drinking water?  Its the last thing I though i would have an issue with.

Must be my 2nd round chemo side effects.  I am lucky enough to have filtered rainwater, but i can't face it, seems to be binding with extra mucous and then creates nausea, so what are the alternatives that people are using to keep hydrated?

I dont really want to be consuming that much ginger ale or any soda type drinks, tea and coffee dont count and fruit juice and the sugar isnt that appealing  and think milk based will cause more mucous (lets not mention soy - there is a big prob with that).....

thx

  • thank you everyone for responding, i guess its part of the treatment that these smaller things get you down, I seem much less resilient than I was prior to my dx.  Its great to be able to blog (& vent) a little.

Going to hit the sinus with everything i can, have a Dr appt Wed and will check the out Fess, but prefer something to dry it up completely. have been doing antibiotics since february 12 months ago, which can not get rid of it either.

I do have a sinus flow bottle like a neti pot, I am very cautious about this Now, as prior to my surgery I thought i would do a sinus cleanse - that completely backfired, caused the infection in the sinus to spread

and there I was with a temperature of 39.4 deg, 2 days out from surgery!

Oh my goodness that was scary, in that i thought surgery would get cancelled and cause lots of disruption.  Luckily i had a great anesthesiologist who rang me and put me at ease and we went ahead on the planned date. But I am paranoid about that happening again, and knowing that the sinusitis kicks 5 days after chemo seemlingly dependent on my immune system hitting the low point, its a very irritating not being able to control it somehow and the nausea is worse then chemo version as its hour after hour during the flow period.

anyway thanks for listening....may try a dose of vit C too while i am at it :)

  • I had trouble drinking water during chemo.I developed a fetish for lemon cordial and lemonade ice blocks.Seemed to do the trick.

  • Hi, I'm just wondering if a netty pot would help. It is a small pot that you fill with warm salty water & then you tip it up one nostril & the water runs out the other nostril. I know it sounds gross & uncomfortable, but my friend swears by it. He hasn't had sinusitis since he has started using it & he suffered badly before. He bought his from a health food shop & uses it daily. It may be worth a try.

  • thanks for the suggestion :)

some info to add, I now realise that I have Post Nasal drip (mucous) and its giving me extra nausea the week after chemo, so going to look at options to remedy it. I do know that i have sinusitis (that flares when immunity is low)  and found that on day 5 after each chemo round this post nasal drip kicks in Its soo disgusting its worst than chemo.

Antibiotics dont help, trying sinus meds and bunch of other treatments like steam this week.  Its awful, its giving me the same nausea as chemo but I dont think its valid to take the anit nausea meds when its being physically caused rather than chemo caused. I wish i could flush out my whole head somehow!

If anyone knows of any products that have helped?

    thx B

  • I haven't tried this myself (haven't started chemo yet) but how would squeezing a little lemon or lime juice into the water go? I'm thinking that would make it less likely to 'stick'?

Or freezing ice cubes (or diy lemon icy poles)?

Hopefully others will have some tried & tested ideas ...

    Go well!
