Understanding all the information

Hi All

Thought I'd give an update as have been back to oncologist now armed with all my questions. Have a much clearer understanding now for what I am dealing with.

Local recurrence of previous bc however in the tissue of the breast and this is causing the inflammation. For this reason it is not inflammatory breast cancer but will be treated in a very similar way with chemo first to shrink everything.

At this point cancer is in most of the tissue of the breast and beyond slightly. This will mean to do mastectomy could be a challenge certainly doable but does not necessarily mean a cure. Mastectomy will most likely include skin grafting.

Would love to here from anyone who is in similar situation or has been. Still overwhelmed right now.

my love goes out to everyone right now whatever the battle is that you're dealing with.

  • Hi Kimee

It's a challenge for sure but it's doable. I was diagnosed in 2009 (lumpectomy and radiation) and then again in 2013 (mastectomy and chemo). I have since undergone reconstruction and feel good. It can be very overwhelming. Take care of yourself and take as much time as you need - it's a big fight but we can win this Alex xx

  • Hi Kimee, so sorry to hear you have to deal with this. I don't have any advice to offer.  I had chemo, lumpectomy, then radiotherapy last year, finishing in late January thus year.

Chemo first has itsown pro's & cons. I got my head around it by believing it was killing off any "escaped" cells.

Will keep you in my thoughts,

    Take care, Lyn

  • Hi Debza

I had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation 2 years ago and now am dealing with local recurrence which has a symptom of redness and inflammation which was what I noticed that warranted me getting it checked out straight away.

It's a bit overwhelming right now but I will soldier on as we all do. Not prepared to just give in to it.

Onc tells me that there is not a strong family history with me and mum as she was diagnosed at 76 with a first breast cancer so more likely that this would have happened sooner if it was Gene related. Onc says it won't change my treatment plan at this point so it's not necessary. We will look at it further down the track.

Good luck with everything and keep posting to let us know how you're getting on.

  • Hello Kimee,

I am a newbie awaiting a lumpectomy.Did you have that first and now 're occuring tissue inflamation.?which has turned into BC again.I have family members including my mum who had breast cancer. You see I was abt to have the gene test when I discovered the lump.Ironically I told the surgeon and she said feel well we better get the test done, otherwise if you have the gene, and we may do a bilateral mastectomy.I don't think they read my history. It feels very matter of fact,at Monash breast clinic, one in one out, next,no time to talk. That's why this forum is great.Wish I knew anything for you,not yet.
