Thought I was done with surgery

I'm so sorry you need more surgery after all that you've been through.It's just the pits isn't it- more twists and turns than a theme park ride.Just when you think you've ticked a box and moved onto the next bit,they drag you back.I suppose they'll do a full lymph node clearance and if they do an op on your ovaries at the same time - o you poor darl,you'll be sore all over.But at least it's done in one hit and you can tick off 2 boxes.This breast cancer stuff takes a year's chunck out of your life doesn't it. I completely lost 2010! But 2011 has been great.So be patient and tell yourself that 2012 will be the great year for you. Ann-Marie is right-christmas shopping on or off line could prove to be a good distraction.Perhaps get all your Christmas cards written?I saw Christmas decorations in the shops today and nearly freaked out.Hope the dr.visits and tests are overwith soon for you and they have a plan.

Hi Maria - It is so hard to get off that darn medical merry-go-round.  My husband and I have a special name for certain times, we call them 'medical weeks' - you know, this week is consult, hospital, tests etc........if we get a week free of them, we darn near kick up our heels!  Today as the surgeon removed stitches from my face (he's very pedantic, and likes to 'follow through') he told me, just as well I had the cancer removed.....it was quote "a nasty one".............Phew! I hope it all goes well dear, and my heart and thoughts are with you, it is just so hard sometimes isn't it.  x x x Josie

I'm sorry to hear that you need more surgery.  Just when you think you are nearly done with hospitals they want you back for more.  I had 3 ops in 14 days before my chemo, it really takes it out of you.  But you got through chemo and you will get through this!

You mentioned you need to see another surgeon - is that because of the ovaries?  Will the same surgeon do everything or will you need 2 surgeons in on the next surgery?  Do you know what this next surgery involves - is it more lymph node removal?

I will have 2 surgeons in on my next surgery which I'm fine with - it just took a while for them to coordinate everything and book the date. I haven't even thought about the expense yet, that's nearly as scary as the op itself (LOL).

I hope it gets organised quickly for you so that you can get it over and done with and feel better before Christmas.  You might need to do your Christmas shopping online this year - it could help ease some of the boredom. Maybe we should all recommend great sites to buy from to help each other out.

Hi Maria,  Sorry to hear that you need more surgery.  I used to think (back in 2006) when are they going to stop cutting.  Initially I had a lumpectomy in both breasts as the surgeon suspected bc in both.  When the results came back it was only in the left breast.  I had to go back for more surgery to do the wider clearance and of course the axilliary clearance as well.  I felt like I was never out of hospital.  This last time, thank goodness, I only had one lot of surgery to remove the affected lymp node.  (the surgeon would have needed to cut my arm off if he was to get a clear wider margin!!!)  Anyway what can you do - Go with the flow.  I understand your boredom.  Sometimes though now with all my appointments eg. dentist, massage, podiatry, acupuncture etc , I wish I had time to rest up.  XLeonie
