Taxol carboplatin

hello:)

has any one had weekly taxol and weekly carboplatin after ac ?

just wondering how the side effects compare

thanks :)
  • That treatment seems pretty common and I'm sure a number of ladies (or gentlemen) will jump in and give you some feed back on how they coped. Thing is, we're such a bow of fruit salad on here that you will find (wait for it) everyone is different.

Some people (like myself) skate through AC just feeling mildly shite while others spend far too much time in hospital for anyone's liking. Others find taxol a breeze--TC for my recurrence was one of the most miserable experiences of my life. Yeah, I know, a different regime from yours, but just sayin...

Anyway, here's hoping you do well--there is no reason to expect not to. Marg xxx

  • I had three months of A/C (three weekly) than 3 months of taxol (weekly). Like Zoffiel, I  breezed through A/C although the general view is that it is harder than taxol. Hair went of course, but nothing much else - lost my appetite for a few days after each treatment, but was never sick, never felt sick, and had no fatigue. I loathed taxol - partly because I got an unrelated (to taxol) side effect half way through - atrial fibrillation could have been caused by a number of things, but my cardiologist still thinks it was a combination (surgery, A/C, age and a bit of hypertension). But it's not a likely side effect, and it's completely manageable anyway. I did get peripheral neuropathy, which definitely was taxol - most people who get this side effect get an annoying degree of numbness, tingling or burning in fingers and toes, but I got really painful feet and worried about walking at all. So, if it starts, get on to your oncologist about how you can minimize it. Most people recover pretty quickly after treatment (and you may not get it at all), but it's worth doing all you can to help that process. Vitamin B helped me, ice water helps some. I lost my taste buds (great if you want to lose weight!) but they came back very fast after treatment. Taxol is hard on soft tissue, so mouth, nose, eyes, can all get a bit of a battering. I got the runny, bloody nose at times. Irritating but not harmful.  Again, cleared up mostly after treatment.

Was it worth it? I am 5 years on, so far no evidence of disease. No guarantees, but .......Best of luck, it passes faster than you would think at the beginning.

  • I had 4 x 3 weekly taxol. Hell each time with 5 days in bed. Have just finished the 4th round of the weekly taxol and it’s so much better. Only tired on infusion day then am ok but at the same time I’m off work and can take it easy (think I would be more tired if I was still working). So far no other major side effects. Can eat EVERYRHING. Actually eating far too much
  • I've just finished 12 weekly Taxol. I had 4 AC dose dense every 2 weeks before the taxol which followed straight after. No break in between to notice too much of a difference except for the constant crying with Taxol. My joints feel like those of a rag doll. My knees and hips want to give way, I'm very unsteady on my feet. Mostly, I keep my feet up if I'm not sitting. Walking seems a thing of the past, even though my feet have stopped aching. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Many don't make it to no 12 they told me. I asked for extra, lol. They said 12 was the max.
  • I had ACT-H. I found taxol hard. No break like AC and became increasingly tired and miserable with leg pain, unsteadiness, watery eyes, blocked nose and sometimes dripping blood. Sensitive skin. Couldn't wear jewelry, no hot showers as it hurt my skin. I also was light headed. Horrid horrid time. Others just breeze through. But I got to 12. And back reclaiming life. Kath x
  • I got to 6 and developed severe neuropathy so it was stopped like Kath it was horrendous for me. but I am now 5 years down the track with no evidence of disease.
we do what we gotta do to kick this bitch to the kerb.
  • Thanks so much for the responses !

i was hoping it might be easier than ac
  • Hi @Jen79x, I found both AC and Taxol ok. AC hit me with fatigue for a couple of days after each treatment but that was pretty much the worst of the side effects for me. ( other than hairloss etc ) With Taxol again tiredness crept in towards the end of the 12 treatments but I think after 6 months of Chemo you're pretty much going to suffer that anyway. I did also have a little bit of cramping in my thumbs but nothing constant. I made sure that I rested when I could, exercised ( walked ) as much as possible and gargled 3/4 times a day to look after my mouth and gums. I hope I never have to gargle ever again I was sick of the sight of the mouthwash! Chemo is a lottery we never know what it will be like until we do it ,as all of us have varying reactions. For me thankfully it was pretty smooth sailing, hopefully you'll get through this one well too.
    Good luck
    Kat
