tamoxifen

Hi,

First time I actually been on this site, its very helpful. :-)

Probably abit of both.Low mood is a side effect of Tamoxifen and I definitely had that after a few weeks of starting it. It's a year since diagnosis for me too.I've just booked my mammogram for next week and am already getting the jitters.It's to be expected.After my  first bout of b cancer(7yrs ago)it took me about 18mths to feel more optimistic so it's still abit raw for you.

it was good to hear that the Genox brand are more tolerated, as thats what I am taking, at the moment I get hot flushes at night,and my bones ach in the morrning. I also feel a little down dont know if thats due to the tables or that I comming up to one year since my surgey.

I was on Tamoxifen for 3 years and had no side effects except break through bleeding on occasions.  This had to be investigated each time (bit expensive) as theren is a risk of uterine cancer . Make sure that you have a caring gynecologist to keep an eye on you.   I told myself that I wasn't going to have any side effects and it worked for me.  Yes there were the night sweats but I had them before the drug so just carried on.  But we are all different.  When I had to change over to Arimidex due to another diagnosis, I hated it.  Mood swings, itching, weight gain etc.  I am having a little reprieve now though whilst under chemotherapy.  Can't say I am looking forward to recommencing it. I've been on Tamoxifen since February.  I've had constipation since then.  Also, when I wake up in the morning my fingers are stiff and painful - like someone has pulled each one of them out of their joints.  It's a weird feeling but doesn't last long and disappears once I get out of bed and move around. 

Chemo put me into menopause and I started off having dozens of hot flushes each day.  It got better when I finished chemo in November 2010, it's now down to a dozen a day, but  I wasn't looking forward to my hot flushes getting worse when I started Tamoxifen.  But so far so good.  I think I'm getting cold flushes too, if there's such a thing.

I started Tamoxifen last August.My hot flushes got worse.I became irritable, abit depressed and had trouble sleeping at night. After a few months my doctor put me on a very low dose antidepressant(Endep 10mg)which really helped with all those symptoms. I stick with the Genox brand as once I had a different brand and it gave me a rash and a terrible headache.Even my doctor said that Genox seems to be more tolerated.I'm still getting the odd hot flush when I have a hot drink or change temperatures/environments suddenly.But by and large it is agreeing with me.It tends not to if you are pre menopausal.
