- June1952MemberHi Hendrix
Thank you for posting the link. It is always good to have some leads, good and bad, as it makes us try to learn more and understand why we had to become a member of BCNA and how we improve our lot over time.
In the end, though, we are in charge of our lives and make our own decisions with our oncology team. To have lots of questions to ask is a good thing and if your link gives ladies questions for their medical team then you have done well.
Me ? I am not on Tamoxifen as my oncologist was not sure of any reactions with other medical conditions and medications and the statistics re the percentage of help at my age (in my early 60s) did not justify its use. She felt my existing conditions did not need to be made worse, nor did she want to introduce other complications.
So, thank you - I am sure your link will help other ladies in their quest for better information re their specific situation - the world is learning all the time.
Summer :-) - RomlaMemberYes I know as been copying down your thoughts and tips - just wanted to clarify my caution about curcumin - many friends who do not have bc are really impressed with it for bone pain - there is a whole bundle of things to try if side effects get tough and as you told me earlier the medical oncologist said I can switch between Hormone therapies if I need to - all good - just going to be determinedly active daily , see what happens and above all hang in there
- melclarityMember@Romla I have to be honest in the last say 2 months my pain has lessened. Im on Aromasin now, but I was taking alot of panadol osteo to get through the day, somedays now I dont need any. I take 350g powdered magnesium in water everyday, 1 Vit D and C. Magnesium is a major source in reduction of pain. I also have osteoporosis and do 2 prolia injections a year. :)
- RomlaMemberSaw my medical oncologist today -re joint pain side effects from hormone therapy - curcumin ( turmeric) is ok .Apart from the usual meds for arthritis like panadol he is quite keen on fish/ krill oil.My regimen will be Femara daily for five years and 6 monthly Prolia injections for my preexisting osteporosis in conjunction with daily Calcium/ Vit D
- melclarityMemberAbsolutely NO silly questions!! xo go and enjoy it :)
- HendrixMember@melclarity hahaha told you silly question.. thank you xx
- melclarityMember@Hendrix haha!! OMG completely safe think of it as purely meditation honestly, its as simple as that. I'm actually a distant specialist not hands on. Very freaky and feel blessed to have been doing it all these years :D and lots of returning clients.
Doesn't interfere with anything, they just move through each body part with their hands as you lay there for about an hour. Its purely relaxation honestly LOL. Think of it that way. :) Again, people have so many misconceptions of what different things are xx - HendrixMember@melclarity I recently won a free reiki session....I hope it's not a silly question but is it safe whilst going through chemo? I've never had one before but have been told by others they are amazing. xx Nellie
- melclarityMember@Romla yes I've always said as for me, I ONLY ever started anything post chemo, as really pretty useless as chemo eradicates your system. Unfortunately, there's just not enough awareness or understanding of how alternative therapies work, and how they help...in recovery. Different ones can be used through treatment to help alleviate symptoms and side effects but they don't involve taking anything lol. I guess the old saying We fear what we don't understand.
So it's all about self nuture, do what feels good for you, no magic cures lol. @Nikkid said it really, unfortunately there is a huge effect on vulnerable people and purely through lack of understanding.
I trust my Team and love my new Naturopath LOL but Im post treatment and never been better physically.
