surgery over

Had my surgery on Tuesday and home today with a couple of drains insitu. Have to wait till 15th for final results but feeling good.  Not much pain and have drains removed tomorrow.  Still feeling very positive.  Have talked to a lot of ladies that are 5, 10 and one 40 years down the track from surgery.  really helps to share.  Have only had one crash and that was the day of surgery when I had to wait from 10:00 am til 4:45 pm to go to theatre.  I had to send my husband to have a rest as he has CCF and it was all getting to much and then I fell to bits.  I think I had been staying strong for him and once he was out of the picture I gave myself permission to have a good bawl.  Beautiful little nurse came and sat with me and talked me out of it with terrific empathy.  Can't praise the staff enough.  Just have to wait patiently now for the next step.  Kester

  • Glad that bit's over for you. The wait for surgery can be awful.

The wait for results sounds even worse. I feel so lucky. Because I was from out of town,  and in a private hospital, my surgeon kept me in hospital for a couple of extra days, until results were in and she could tell me. Unfortunately,  I then had to go back to theatre for a re-excision as I didn't have clear margins. Oh well, 7 months on, and all is good.

    Hope your recovery is uneventful.

    Take care, Lyn

  • It is hard for husbands though especially sick ones like mine,

  • yes, Primek, the waiting was tyhe worst.  My husband was allowed to wait in my ward for me to come back to but in the end he had to go home to bed as I didn't do the right thing for them and my blood pressure refused to get above 60/40 for several hours so didn't see him till next morning.  Didn't know anything about it though so I was okay

  • The waiting is exhausting. One of the hardest bits was going into the pre sugery waiting area...all lined up like production...day surgery area even though I was a planned admission. Husband had to leave then and no where for him to wait the 5 to 6 hours for me to come out. He was a wreck. I was so relieved to be wheeled in. Goodluck with the next step

  • Thanks Brenda, staying positive and enjoying a bit of tlc

  • One step over and the source of the cancer is gonski. Now to rest up and get ready for the mopping up treatments. Sounds like everythings going well for you now.

  • Thanks Cath, Hope all goes well for you, hugs, we all need them, Kester xxx

  • Hi Kester,

Congratulations on having had your surgery and now having made it home. Yay!!!!! I think the waiting is very hard and it must have been incredibly nerve wracking to have to wait that long to go into theatre. I myself am finding my bath tub a great place to have a little sob when I need to. I had my pre-admission hospital visit today so will be following in your footsteps soon. Will be following your progress and thinking of you.

    Xx Cath
