something my oncologist said

Today I went for my monthly zoladex injection. My oncologist said at the start of treatment I'd be on tamoxifen. Now today she says her plan for me is arimadex and depending on my pathology results from surgery which I'm booked in for next Wednesday, she may put me on a trial of palbocicilib. From what I have read this drug is for metastatic breast cancer. Does this mean she thinks it has spread since my response to chemo was poor. I really wish she hadn't told me this today with upcoming mastectomy next week as I'm already scared stiff. Can any of you ladies tell me if that drug is used for another reason.
Thanks in advance.
  • Hi everyone,  I'm  also down for the trial of this medication. I've signed papers and jhave been provided with all side effects and waiting for further information as im still on daily radiation.
I'll do anything to get rid of that terrible word 'C'...
  • Thanks @Unicornkisses, makes more sense. I'm stage 3 grade 2 from initial biopsy report but I guess the actual pathology may be different. I'm glad to hear your surgery went well and your pain is minimal. I'm quite scared about my surgery coming up as never had an operation before. I'm also going alone so hoping the wait doesn't do me in as anxiety is bad at the best of times.
  • My Oncologist has suggested I go on the trial too. I am not metastatic. He said it was aimed at people with a high risk of reoccurrence which spun me out. I asked him did that mean I am at a high risk of reoccurrence? He backtracked a little then, but said he would check with the coordinators whether I was eligible. Whew, sometimes they forget we hang on their every word.
Have a look at the information in the link, it does say who it is aimed at. Stage 2 and 3 early breast cancer, hormone positive, HER negative.
They are thinking it is more effective than Aromatase Inhibitors alone. It can't be used with Tamoxifen.
  • @primek, thank you so much. She basically wrote the name of the drug on a piece of paper and said go home and Google it. When I saw it used for metastatic breast cancer I kind of started worrying. I feel much better now for reading the link. Thanks for the clarification, you're a legend.
  • Oh no it's not about thinking you have metasteses. If they thought that they would tell you as your workup pre surgery would have suggested this.

They currently are doing a trial for early breast cancer now using palbocillib. I've  added the link below. She is probably keeping up with all the latest research. ..which is exactly what you want.
