  • My finger nails went an orange colour, and very soft and brittle, then started to lift off with my final two treatments of 'Docataxel.'  My toe nails went dark in colour and my two largest toe nails went black. My fingers settled down quite well about a month or so after chemo finished. During the treatment I had terrible pain in my feet and then  my two big toe nails became arched, very hard and extremely painful. Wearing closed in shoes was very difficult and painful. It was at least 12 months before I could prise the nails off the new ones that were growing underneath. This was very frustrating but a nail treatment I tried  seemed to work to some small degree. Eventually the nails dried out enough to lift off partly themselves. Then I cut the rest away with a nail file and toe clippers.

Good luck with yours huny and take care XXX Mia XXX

  • my nails took about 8 months to stop peeling and breaking off. I just washed my hands and put hand and nail creme on and left them be. I had no choice but to keep them short as they just peeled and broke off.  I lost a couple of toe nails but they are back and all is well.

For the 1st time on the weekend I put on nail polish, whilst my nails aren't very long they are strong again so hopefully I'll now get some length.

    Take care

  • Hi Dizumba,I love your photo by the way!I am 5 months past chemo, and my nails have suddenly started to look normal again,in the last week.It is such a coincidence for me that you posted on the blog today, because just yesterday I was showing my daughter my nails, and she commented how good they are starting to look. However,up until a couple of weeks ago they were so disgusting. If I tried to grow them ,even a tiny bit, they just started to peel into layers at the tip.Two of my toe nails had started to lift off,but they seem to have stopped and they are looking ok as well.I think the best thing to do is keep them short and clean, and don't put anything on them.Give it a few more weeks, and I reckon they will be just fine.Cheers Robynxox
