So much for good vibes. Scan day sucked . They've called me back.
This may come out not making sense as I am somewhere in between being scared shitless and f*/#&%g furious.
So after the mammogram and u/sound the doctor popped her head in (obviously they could see I was starting to freak out) and said there was no changes to last years scans. Gave me a smile and said goodbye. Phew.
I was feeling quite positive after that until the receptionist rang and said I needed to come back for another targeted ultra sound as the MRI had picked up something. The other two hadn't, yet again!
Oh and the doctor wanted me to go tomorrow and follow her to their other facility as she is only in Ipswich on Thursdays and wanted to talk to me.
So my head is in a mess and the tears are starting, my heart is pounding and I've got the shakes.
I don't know if I can do all that again. I know I am over thinking and not to freak out totally before I know for sure. But FAAARRRKKK this shit,

- Patti_JMember@arpie. No. They didn't pay.
Another patient of my plastic surgeon had the same issue.
I no longer have mammograms. - arpieMemberSHIT! That's a shocker @"Patti J" - aren't they supposed to ask if you have implants & take appropriate care??? So you had to have another procedure to remove & replace? Hope they paid!
- kezmuscMemberOh dear @"Patti J"
That's just awful. They get paid to do difficult. - Patti_JMember@kezmusc. 8 years ago, a technician at I-med burst one of my implants while doing a mammogram. She was very surly because, for her, it was a difficult procedure. I only discovered it a month or so later. I had to have both implants replaced. I have been there since, only because they have bulk billed my MRIs.
- arpieMemberYou'll have it handy next time, I reckon @kezmusc! Nothing like a bit of visual proof! ;) (AND everyone else, me included!!) Too often, we are just astounded & sit like stunned mullet ....
All the best for the results, my friend xx - kezmuscMemberOhh bugger @Arpie, wish I had thought of the phone!
- arpieMemberFUCKITY FUCK! That is disgraceful, @kezmusc - as @"Annie C" said - there is a time & place for this when they have their tea break, not when half clothed patients are sitting in sight of everyone, waiting to be treated. As you say, anyone starting out on their scans would be a howling mess - and it is just not good enough. I reckon you should have got your phone out & start recording ...... just saying' ;) They are being paid, after all, to look after you!
I-Med is the mob who've just taken over the Radiology dept contract at Port Macquarie Base Hospital ...... they are only ever as good as their staff .... so only time will tell how professional THEY are! (tho my stuff will be off the hospital grounds.)
@"Annie C" - OMG - you've been mucked around & stuffed up SO MUCH this year - that is also unacceptable! It has happened to me before at Breastscreen too - tho I stood my ground & was seen that day, even tho it is only a 1/2hr drive from here.
Yep - Centrelink are a SUCH pain in the arse, too, @Zoffiel - and that is an absolute disgrace to happen to you in full view & hearing of them. I hope you are able to get the big guns out to go into battle on your behalf! grrrr
I am transitioning to Pension right now & have been in a few times with varying results - usually required to go back again with something they've forgotten to ask you to bring. The best they did to me was put our assets into the system twice & then stopped our payments without notice!! Then it took some work to get them to believe it was THEIR stuff up! grrrr Other times, they treat you like an imbecile or as if your pension is coming out of their own pockets!
Like you, @kezmusc - I normally don't stir the pot - but I think they all know my phone number now! In 2010, When Keith was having his chemo & stuff, the radiology dept here lost one of his referrals (we turned up at the appointed time for the scan) and it wasn't there. So we just sat in the waiting room until it was done - 2hrs+ later, as they had to ring the specialist & get another one faxed thru. :(
GO GIRLS!! Go Get 'em!! - kezmuscMemberIt's so annoying @Annie C. Especially when you have to drive a long way only to be sent home and have to do it all over again. The time delay over someones typo must be frustrating and no doubt piss you off.
Before BC I was quite laid back and let most things go over my head. I rarely complained. Still don't except when it comes to this kind of inconsiderate behaviour. I have regularly reminded staff at work to keep the level of noise down and that the place sounded like the local pub.
The cake really took the cake though LOL.
I was somewhat stunned to say the least and if I don't say anything the next person might be really affected by this kind of nonsense. I understand people don't realise but if you work in the medical field in any capacity you really need to be aware. - Annie_CMember@kezmusc
It takes a lot to piss me off but one thing I cannot abide is non professional standards and behaviour.
A cake in an MRI room is non professional. Save it for the tea room.
A recent experience of mine left me wondering about the attention to detail (or lack of) and therefore the accuracy of medical treatment / results.
I was recently waiting for a follow-up consultation with a physician for an ongoing health condition. I was originally told the physician would be back in town early November. Remember I am very remote so missing an appointment usually means waiting a while for the next one. So I waited and I waited and I waited with finally receiving an appointment letter for early December.
Why do I question the attention to detail?
The letter stated appointment was for 05 December at 1pm. Drove into town and arrived at the clinic at the appropriate time only to find the appointment letter should have stated 06 December at 1pm. No apology for any inconvenience. My comment about lack of attention to detail was met with much eye rolling.
Will I be checking and rechecking appointments in future. You betcha.
Write the letter. State that such behaviour is unprofessional and leads to you questioning the accuracy of any reports. - ZoffielMember
Write with wine then review without. NOT the other way around :)
