Skin Issues

Hey everyone, just a question about skin care - over the last few days l have broken out with a mix of sore blind pimples & small white headed ones, all across my chest, neck, face, shoulders & back. I've contacted the hospital about this & they are sure after a lot of questions that it's not a rash or reaction, but just kind of brushed it aside with "Oh well, chemo does mess around with your skin..." & didn't tell me what to do about it...l felt a bit guilty asking about such a trivial thing in the end, a break out is much better than vomiting / nausea etc. Before chemo l had quite clear skin, l might get one or two big pimples just before my period but with a good scrub, witch hazel & peroxide cream, they'd be gone after a couple days. Not sure what to do about this though, as its different. Currently l'm just using soap free body wash in the shower, unscented moisturiser all over face & body. And of course, drinking lots of water & trying not to eat too much crap! Any suggestions? I'm ok with make up if needs be, but it just makes me feel unhealthy & unsightly!

  • Yep so is mine. And my calf and arms skin look like saggy baggy elephant with so much muscle gone! I am using almond oil everywhere! Just make sure what you buy is fresh and not oxidised. Health shops are better sometimes than chemist. I am sure coconut oil is good too. It has a much lower temperature solidifying point so may last on your skin longer. I just find it a bit greasy. Happy Christmas to you as well Julie x

  • I might try the almond oil.I use Moo Goo everywhere, but find I have to use it a lot for it to be effective.Someone told me coconut oil is great? I am 58 and find the skin on my face is terribly dry at present.I might try both!!! Have a great Christmas. Robyn.
  • I am also on TC and That's great advice for us all Robyn. I am travelling away on the 21 st for 2 weeks so will make sure I have both packed in my bag ( ever expanding) of medical goodies. Mostly at present I have dropped the anti- aging skin regime for pure almond oil as my skin at 59 is very dry anyway. Julie
  • Maybe I can help, and don't let them brush it aside. After my first round of chemo, and I am on Docetaxel and cyclophosphamide,I got a really annoying skin rash on about day 9.It was mainly around my neck, shoulders, armpits, and some in my groin.A bit on my back too.The breast care nurse at RPA suggested I buy sigmacort from the chemist.I thought at the time,"oh that's not going to help me" but within a day,it was clearing. The next round was the same, but worse. My onc told me to take my Dex tablets for two extra days,(but only one tablet on day 3 and 4) This helped also, but the last cycle,my 3rd one,it was worse again, and nothing helped. My son is a nurse, and suggested I take Zyrtec.I did,and within a couple of hours it was clearing. It came back the next day,and I took another one.It cleared up,and hasn't come back again! I have my 4th round on Monday,so am expecting the same thing again. Cheers. Robyn. xoxo
