Seroma

Hi all I had a double mastectomy & recon a year ago now but about 8 weeks ago started feeling I'll and had a huge seroma on the side of my left implant which was sore and had to be drained. My white blood cells were up so a course of antibiotics and all seemed okay but I still felt like I had mild flue (all achy etc) a couple of days ago my left ear and glands in my neck and arm started feeling really sore and the seroma has come back with vengeance and I feel really really I'll and sore all down my left side. I've had no trauma, fall, knock or anything, I just feel really ill and again have this huge lump on the side of my left boob. Anyone experienced this and/or have any idea what could be causing it?

  • Hi Paula, yeah I'm glad I phoned now as it's getting more painful and it looks like I've.started to get dimpling. I shouldn't do but I've come in from.work and hubby has poured me a big glass of wine. I'm.just really over all this and think I'm close to breaking point. I keep reminding myself how lucky I am when.so many are worse off than me. Xxx

  • That's great they have fitted you in. I think it's the specialist you need at times like this.

    All the best.

  • Thanks Paula and Mira, I've just phoned my surgeon and I'm seeing him at 8am tomorrow morning. x

  • Hi Tina,

Ouch, that would be sore.  I had a seroma after my lumpectomy and ended up in the er late at night because of the pain, so I know it hurts!  They were going to drain it but the registrar from the breast clinic was there and stepped in and said not to drain it because that opens us up to infections.  I was sent home with painkillers and it settled down.

I'd go and get it checked out by your specialists as soon as you can.

    cheers

  • Hi Tina,

One of the ladies in the breast reconstruction page had a seroma form in her back area after about a year. ( she has had a lat Doris with implants. She believes it was due to some new exercise. With the glands being up and you feeling fluey there is obviously something going on. I'd be back to the Drs if I were you. Is there any way you can see the plastic surgeon who performed the op or your breast surgeon. They would probably be able to tshed some light onto what's going on.
