Second instalment from my first post last week

Well I feel I know alot more then my first post last week when I was so overwhelmed by the knowledge I have Breast Cancer. I dont feel so alone anymore have had the help of some lovely Ladies from a support group that I joined as well as on here. Found out last week then now preparing myself for my mastectomy in two days. Not to sure how i'm feeling or really what to expect. Kinda happy that it has come around really quickly so dont have to much time to really think about it but also secretly scared. What does one expect?

  • Hi. Glad your surgery went well and you are home again. Rest up and sending you best wishes for a good recovery. I too am waiting on surgery in a couple weeks for a right breast mastectomy. Know the relief feeling of when surgery is over as I've  been there twice before. No clear margins so this time a mastectomy. Let us know  how you get on as I will too after my op. Sending lots of healing hugs.take care.x

  • Hi my name is Bel.  I just decided to hop onto the website after a long absence to see if I can cheer some one up, now it is 3 years later for me.  I see you are at the start and I am so happy for you to have found this wonderful place to be able to reach out and grab emotional support from a large group of people who will make it a hell of a lot easier.  It is a shock to all who get bad news from their DR and yes the waiting is the worst.  You have just joined a big club and they all experience one thing in common, FEAR.  But we can all pass on kind words and I will always be grateful for this BCNA for allowing me to reach out and make friends through a tough time.  Every one has an opinion, and advice, so keep an open mind and get ready for lots of help.  Learning to do all the "hippie guru" things like deep breathing, shifting your focus and not stressing about every thing is a big key.  You will be able to manage so much better for having the great advice from here.   So every one has a different story, a different situation and a different out come, and every one handles stuff differently.  Take one day at a time, and ask all the right people the important questions.  Reach out to every resource available if you can, and the My Journey Kit is a brilliant.  Open up and express yourself with your family

    Cheers from Bel

  • hi

what does one expect.... For me I have to say relief that I knew that they had removed the Cancer and it seemed to take an enormous amount of stress off my shoulders. Yes we have to wait for results and then what the plan is but to know that the Large Cancer had been removed was very reassuring.

I felt really well after my surgery Yes i was restricted in some things ie hanging washing carrying heavy things etc.

But I felt well. I took the time to heal prior to chemo and radiation beginning and I found this forum wonderfully supportive.

sending you energy to relax and go with the flow of this journey

  • Wishing you well for surgery and recovery.

My suggestion is that you do some prep work at home, stock the pantry and freezer to make it easy all round for you and the family.  You will be restricted in movement for awhile so mundane chores like hanging out washing, making beds, carrying groceries et cetera are for others to do!

Keep your head in a positive space and if something negative comes in, kick it out!  This is about you now!  Your medical team are the best and will do the best for you

    Take care from Christine

  • I can honestly say this pre surgery period is the toughest as everything is still new and there are so many unknowns... I know it is hard to breathe at times and so many weird and at times scary thoughts run through one's head BUT it gets better.

You need to prep for the surgery and I would honestly advise to rest up as much as possible, have a few outings with your friends and family and use this time to recharge the batteries so you have energy for the recovery.

There are a lot of posts here about what to take to the hospital and what various people found helpfull to do ti prepare so will not go on about it as I know you can easily find that information in the search histories...

I guess just wanted to say that once the surgery is over and done with and the cancer has been removed there is a lot more certainty. You can breather out... You will soon also have the final biopsy results which will determine the appropriate treatment and then you have an action plan. It really takes away a lot of anxiety so just hang in there.

Remember to take things one step at the time and to take care of yourself and to let others help you. Do whatever feels right for you at the time. There are many mixed emotions (we have all been there and I remember going from a superwoman mode where I could take on a world to a raging maniac to an absolute meltdown due to sooking and almost depression in a space of 5 to 10 minutes...).

Just remember this is one of the hardest if not THE hardest thing you will ever do through so do what feels right for you. Take care of yourself and remember this forum is one safe place where we get it and are here for you.

    Hugs ????????????????

    Jel.
