Scattered Microcalcifications

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with early breast cancer (stage 2) last year at the age of 36 with a husband and three young children. I've had two lumpectomies, three months of chemo, six weeks of radiation and now I'm on tamoxifen since the beginning of last month. 

I had another mammogram and ultrasound last week, the report says that I've got scattered microcalcification throughout the left breast and the top half of the right one.  The surgeon and radiation oncologist mentioned that they are not sure if it's benign or cancer.  This means that I will need another mammogram in six months time to compare the films. This is freaking me out!

I'm  very worried about my health due to a rare type of cancer called Adenosquamous which is normally found in the lungs and kideys, not in the breast.   I've done lots of research, it says that Adenosquamous has a high recurrance! This is not looking good is it?

Today, I saw the radiation oncologist and I asked her what the survival rate is for this rare type of cancer, she mentioned that she cannot give me the statistic rate due to an uncommon type of cancer.

Has anyone had Adenosquamous in the breast? Do you have issues with scattered microcalcifications?

I want to beat this disease, what can I do to get better?

    Hi Michelle, I too have not heard about this type of cancer, but if it is aggressive and rare, I can understand your fear about waiting 6 months for another mammogram. I was diagnosed with a very common breast cancer 15 months ago, and though I started with a lumpectomy, I elected to have a mastectomy instead of another lumpectomy when the surgeon wanted to do more.( I am only small busted). 9 months later I decided to have a second precautionary mastectomy. I have come across so many ladies that ended up with a second breast cancer down the track, and I decided that I didn't want to go there again. For me it was the right thing to do, and my surgeon was happy to oblige. I have done the chemo, but didn't require radiotherapy. I am on anti oestrogen tabs for 5 to 7 years. I have had no regrets about my decision, and have now completed reconstruction with implants that I am delighted with. I am quite a bit older than you, (53), so maybe the decision was easier for me. To me it was just one thing that I felt I could control, and my husband and 4 adult kids were very happy with my decision. My husband is very impressed with the new boobs as well.     I will talk with my GP about the situation, I'm scared about the type of cancer, it's very rare and very aggressive!

    Oh! Michelle how scary it must be for you and your family,   but welcome  to this wonderful  site that offers so much to people in need like you and me.   I'm sorry i cant offer any advise on your type of cancer,  I have never heard of it,  but be assured  someone else would have.  At the moment it seems pretty quiet on this site, but  no doubt it will  will  pick up again soon.There are some really beautiful ladies here  that know a lot about cancer and others that offer heaps of  support.

    To ask you to wait 6 months to see if it has spread or grown  just seems cruel, i know if that was me i would be trying to convince them to do it at 3 monthly intervals. Your GP may be-able to help with writing a letter about how stressed and depressed  (maybe) you are . It is just wrong to expect someone to wait ! !

    Remember Michelle it is your body and your life that may be affected by this cancer so dont be afraid to start demanding the attention you deserve weather they are busy or not. You are the only one who can demand whats right for you. It's to late once it has grown or spread.

    We have had this discussion on this site before about standing up for our rights and demanding the right treatment. There are so many ladies that feel the same way. Michelle let us know how you get on but in the mean time try and keep busy  and please see your GP and have a talk with him/her. Good luck  and take care,
